Had a rock strike on Friday very close to the edge on the passenger side, was not
a very large rock, but the current split has walked another two inches today.

Should be replaced tomorrow.

I was about to give my X a quick bath when mine broke from spraying it with the garden hose.

I should've known that spraying somewhat cold water onto a somewhat hot windshield would do this. I mean it was scorching 70 degree out, what was I thinking.

This car just keep on giving.

No UV = Better radar detection!

Cracked mine a week or two ago. Huge stone flew at me across the Highway divider from the gravel on the road cause the city was resurfacing. I should have got the seperate glass insurance.

My insurance company said to go through a seperate company they contract glass insurance to. They said it was cheaper and didn't affect my regular insurance.

Also, I used to work in a glass shop doing windshields, etc and cause of the constant construction where I live there is tonnes of business in glass repair/replacement and a seal issue if done by an experienced installer is very rare. Less then 1% of the time I would guess.

Also, the safety glass (LS whatever) is the same in most windshields nowdays anyway so its rare that one companies windshield is more prone to cracks/chips then anothers based on the glass itself. Placement/Height is another issue though.

My previous ride (MS3), I went through 2 windshields due to cracks. It really comes down to luck and where you drive.

All I can say is try to get a chip repaired as soon as possible so it doesnt turn into a crack. And get a set of those stickers that Glass/Crack repair shops have to put over the chip to stop it from spreading. Its better then nothing.

I know this because I replaced my windshied my first month of ownership back in February of 2008.

Unless something has changed from last year, they have identical part numbers.
It was definitely NOT that way on the IX and VIII vs the Lancer. They part numbers were different. There was actually a 4lb weight difference, and the mirror mount is different. I found out the hard way and had to stop using my JDM ralliart mirror

Hate to revive an old thread but had to. Mine chipped IDENTICAL to this, this morning and the mark from whatever hit it is so tiny. This really pisses me off, luckily I have full windshield coverage. I literally watched it run across from nothing to 20 inches in about 30 seconds.

i don't think so. mine was cracked the 2nd day after i bought the car. hit by a small piece of rock, the initial star immediately turned into a two feet long crack within seconds. had to replace it.

They make UV film that is 100% clear. Usually tint shops have it.

I don't know what the place I went to did when they replaced it but the inside of the car is a hell of a lot quieter now. So glad I have full glass coverage.

Yah, if you get a rockship, patch it immediately or it will spider on these windshields. Any extreme cold or hot will cause it to spider as changes in temp causes glass to contract and expand.

While driving on the freeway in my previous car. I hear a loud sound look to the passenger side and notice a huge crack. It was really a bumber. Cost me $250 to have the windshield replaced.

Add me to the list of people with a cracked windshield. I had the tinniest little crack from a stone chip. It starred out but was less than the size of a dime. Left it to be repaired at a glass shop like I've done before on previous cars I've owned... only to have them tell me "it didn't take". ARGH!!!!

Now I have a crack that's over a foot long going up my windshield and creeping its way across the passenger side. FML!
