talk about misinformed ... the door only unlocks when the inside of the door handle detects heat not when you are nearby

Wait, what? For real? Mitsu did what to the fastkey system? I no longer think it is that cool that the Xs have fastkey. All the other "fastkey" type systems I've been around have nothing to do with detecting heat (that would suck! what if I was wearing gloves, or it was freezing cold outside!). The mini-s I just drove a few days ago just had a little teenie button on the handle you pushed and it unlocked. Only needed one finger to do that. There's really not some little button or some other lever? It is controled by heat?

lol aw come on dude read the manual! it tells you specifically it's activated by the strip that's behind the front door's handle!

but is it heat sensitive? i thought it was touch sensitive. guess i'll go bust out my manual too.

Wow, RTFM!

F.A.S.T. = Free-hand Advanced Security Transmitter

The key uses weak electromagnetic waves to communicate with sensors. Operating range is approx. 2.3 feet.

Time settings (delays before unlocking) may be adjusted by Mitsubishi.

OP the delay you are experiencing is from moving out of range of the trunk sensor and into range of the door handle sensor. If you want quicker reaction time talk to a Mitsu dealer, they should be able to adjust it for you.

I read nothing in the manual about heat sensing.Just what was mentioned, a simple touch sens. strip.

On a side note, I highly recommend people with F.A.S.T. keys read their manual, I would hate to hear someone got locked out of their car because the battery went low in their key or electromagnetic interference was messing with their sensor and they had to get a tow! lol

I thought it sounded crazy too! I don't have a manual to read, and my car isn't cool enough to even have the option of coming with fastkey type system

Good, I'm glad you cleared that up for me, I was a bit freaked out. Mitsu has done some weird things (Endeavor TC in the '03 Evos, for example) but come on. And yeah, always read the manuals for the high tech gadgets, though... If it's anything like the section on the DCCD for the new STi's it won't help much Instead of saying what it actually does, it just tells you what it is for "Switch to plus mode in case of inclimate weather, switch to minus for a more precise steering feel" man, can't you just say "plus puts more power to the front, and minus puts more to the rear"? Anyone buying an STi can figure that out.

The fast key in my trunk won't work no matter what. To get the front doors to work, I have to pull once. It then beeps. After that, its golden.

you sure it's not just a battery problem with your fast key? also, you have to hold the handle and pause. you don't have to pull it in order for it to recognize your key.

Funny, I just double checked.

1. Placed small towel around door handle.
2. Locked door.
3. Stepped back.
4. Walked back towards door with FAST key in my front jeans pocket.
5. Pulled on towel without putting hand or fingers around back side of handle.
6. Opened door with no problems, pulling on towel only.

lol

Okay, so it has a 3 or 5 second delay - I think we have established that, but I appreciate the creative responses and suggestions. Yes, I can work around this, but it seems dumb.

I'll try asking the dealer if they can attempt to set the delay to zero, or something at least lower than 3. I don't have Navi., so I don't think I can do it (I could check the manual....but I have some other stuff to do).

Nonetheless, its annoying and I'm not sure what the designers were thinking.

FYI - in the car's manual, 3-21, second column, bullet #3. Says dealer can adjust it, we will see when I go in for my oil change.

This is why the fast key also has a real key included with it just incase.

seems like mine works money when i put my hand over door handle and just kind of pause.... i always have my iphone bluetooth on with me and as long as i'm not going back to it within like 20 secs right after i lock it or vice versa its fine (ralliart 09, assuming same system)

Yup, it works fine for me as long as I pause a second before opening the door. Also, when the key is in my pocket, it works better when I have my waist closer to the door. If I reach out my arm with my butt away from the door (I don't know why I would do this but I do have longish arms), it doesn't always sense the key.
