Lots of good points on this one, but the bottom line is do you really want to buy a car that has exhibited electrical problems? These things can be a major pain to deal with once you drive off the lot.

A dead or jumped battery is not going to cause the kind of stuff you were seeing... just my 2 cents.

That's what I thought. Thanks for shedding light.

That's why you need to check if the battery lamp lights up. If it does, then everything is connected and alternator is getting juice from the battery. A closed circuit then.

I think the issue is that the car he is looking at has alternator issues somewhere in the system.
I'm starting to think about that. I think it's not just the battery. Probably a bad connection, or a bad alternator.

Yeah, I had my car running off a dead battery a few months ago. It never exhibited such behavior.

I'm kinda over it now, since the dealership didn't want to negotiate and plus the fact that the car had those issues. I'll just go somewhere else, unless of course, if they give me a killer deal which I doubt. LOL!

it sounds like the dead battery could be the problem.

however, just keep this in mind.

there is a special place in hell for car salesmen. they will tell you anything, ANYTHING, to get you to buy a car. i cant put it any better then this...

DONT BUY THE CAR UNTIL IT IS IN 100% working condition, period.

^no

this is incorrect. maybe for a honda it would work, without having ANY accessories on. the battery is 100% necassary for every aspect of the vehicle, especially when accessories are on, which is when you are saying the car is having the problems.

Do you think test driving every single GSR you want to buy is ridiculous? It seems to me that it's the only way to find defects. Yeah I know, salesmen only want our hard earned money, period.

Incorrect. The battery only acts as a "capacitor" when the alternator is supplying power.

The battery is not necessary for any aspect of the vehicle besides powering everything before and during starting (ie when the alternator is not producing any electrical power), and acting as a capacitor in the event your stereo draws excessive load when you have it cranked or you initially turn your headlights on and the ballasts charge up. Nothing else in the car's electrical system changes load more than those two.

During normal driving, the battery is just another load off of the alternator and is being recharged.

Edit: the battery's capacitive effect is somewhat insignificant in comparison to the on-board voltage regulator anyways.

My bet is on a 'f'ed up regulator from a year of jump starts on that faulty battery.
