Carbon hood
rocks/chips aren't exactly an exception, and is actually worse for painted hoods, so the point is moot.
you just need to treat the carbon stuff right with the greatest care you can offer, and it will last the life of the car.
peel? sorry but that has to be some horrible quality products, as in, ebay no-name products.

you look like a ricer with a carbon hood, you save hardly any real weight, your just wasting money.
ive owned 4 cars with cf hoods its kinda my thing.
i think they look great and ive never had a problem with clear coat or anything
u guys are all living in the past they used to have that problem with the hoods but they fixed the clear coat and put uv protector in it. ive had the same hood for 2 years and i park my car outside, ive had it in the winter and the summer in -35 weather and +35 weather even drove it in hail and never had a problem, ALWAYS Seibon

the clear on the evo 8's wing is as bad as the paint itself on the x, way too thin. if they did it right, it won't crack.
just because there's a carbon hood on a car it doesn't classify him/her a ricer, although you're entitled to your own opinion. but you're also implying the pagani zonda is ricer, the bimmers are ricer with the carbon roofs, and a slew of very aggressive looking evos here are ricer. you might want to reconsider your statement.
the aluminum hood is very light, but dry carbon hoods are even lighter, by about 2 lbs. you're right - it's not real weight, but if it looks good to the person and it sheds weight as well, why not? heck, even if it's wet carbon and it looks good, why not?
what a coincidence, chips and even cracks on carbon fiber can be fixed too! who knew?

I don't understand why anyone would want to replace a perfectly fine OEM aluminum hood with a CF hood that most likely has worse fitting and weighs more. It looks so out of place.
LOL@ comparing the Evo to a Zonda. First off, the Zonda can pull it off because its a freaking supercar with a body made entirely out of carbon fiber. Also, the M3 has a CF roof to save weight. A CF hood does look ricey on a japanese 4 door with a ginormous factory wing.

but sure, if you think any carbon is rice on a japanese car, that's your opinion. i'm not going to argue it.
again, what you just said before simply implies that. also, the varis dry carbon hood shaves 1.5lbs off, so is that rice? of course it is, because the evo has a huge wing and the m3 doesn't.

If you want to save really save weight, and make a noticeable difference, you would invest that money in lighter brakes and wheels.
I don't think carbon works unless you have an all out race or show car. All im saying is a CF hood on an otherwise stock Evo X looks stupid as hell.
If you want to shave weight, you can also drink prune juice a couple hours before you goto bed..... Watch what happens the next morning!!!
Now if building a show car, I can understand, but at least get a high quality good fitting product. But if you say you got it for saving weight??? Well I would think you would be building a race car with full gutted interior among other things. No R/F stereo, boxes, navi, etc.

The reason I posted the video above is to show that hoods need extra reinforcement besides just the latch. My video as well as the other vids in this thread show people's hoods closed and secured by just the latch, yet they still fly up. Now if all these guys had their hood closed with no latch and no pins then I take everything back. The guy in the sti looked like he wasn't even going that fast. Evo's are capable of going 150+ (not that one will ever go that fast) so it makes you think twice about whether or not hood pins are a necessity.
