Will the 2010 Evo X have the same fate as the 2008 ?

I didn't think they would come out with the 2010 Evo X considering that the 2008 version is still being sold at a huge discount.
This begs the question:
This time next year, will the 2010 Evolutions be sitting on dealer lots like the 2008's are today ? I think so, but it will heavily depend on how many they decide to bring over.

I highly doubt it. When Mitsu imported the 2008s, they didn't anticipate the US economy falling apart, so they produced & brought over a lot of US-spec Evos. The number of 2010s they will (or already have) produce will most likely be less than half of 2008s. That means, pricing won't drop due to the limited numbers and they should be able to keep some profit.
All the other automakers are considerably dropping their production numbers for this year due to the slump in demand & avoid massive profit loss, Mitsu won't be an exeption.
If you want an X, now would be the time to avail ridiculous deals... you won't see them again in the next coming years.

US Release of the 2010 X is a given. But expect Mitsu to cut back USDM production sharply to meet lower demand forecasts They have also added luxury options to the '10 aimed at luring some from the luxury segment over. These two things combined will firm up pricing... Do not expect anything close to the discounts that you are seeing now.
Yeah, anticipate them producing way less of the 2010's, and shipping only a fraction of those to the US.
They wont flood the market and unintentionally devalue them. If anything, I think they would underproduce and undership, just to artificially inflate the price via scarcity.

I also believe that people who would want/know about the '10 Evo's, already have them, and the '10 doesn't offer enough "change" to warrant buying in to this upcoming year's model... The "luxury upgrade" IMO, isn't enough to persuade BMW and the like to cross over. The interior is still sub-par for the price bracket our cars are in... The low USDM production, like mentioned above, will keep prices and demand high, but to what extent?
no company expects to sell their products lower than msrp. I am really sure mitsu will reduce the production tremendously to keep the value close to msrp. Selling cars is all business. I believe mitsu already made statement on "possibility" of leaving automobile industry in north america for selling less than 6 digits of cars per year.

^^ hadn't heard that, but if that's the case, I'm in my X for the long haul.... unless they release a XI that is ridiculous.... But by then, the Evo will be gaining on GTR status/pricing (am I reaching too far?) lol
Check this article out (June 25,2009):
http://www.japancorp.net/article.asp?Art_ID=21664
===============================
"By region, output in North America was 100 percent down as all production has been halted due to very slow sales in the United States."
"Exports to North America at 1,759 units were 54.0 percent down."
"Production volume in Japan at 24,793 units was down 60.0 percent as a 65.0 percent decrease in passenger car (20,107 units) output"
===============================
Really sad news, this could very well be a sign of the Evo's end in the United States soon.
Mitsu is closing plants in Australia, North America, etc... looks like they will just have most of their cars made and imported from Japan?

Mitsubishi as a conglomerate company really doesn't make any money off of selling vehicles. I don't even think it's their goal to turn a profit. It's just a huge tax write-off for the larger company. Show a loss so they can write it off.
But I'm sure they are seeing diminishing returns from this write off. At some point it's going to make more business sense to shut it down then to keep it...

I don't think their auto division continues to exist just so the company as whole can use it as a tax writeoff. Mitsu cars have a long & proud history, although they are not prominent here in America, they are actually very popular & profitable (before the global economic slump) in Asia & Europe. They will continue to survive there, but the company's immediate future in America is murky at the moment, and if this trend continues, there's really no reason for them to stay here.
Even if they do "weather" it out here, it will become too expensive for them to import Evos, considering millions of $$$ in profit loss on the 08 Xs. Just doesn't make financial sense, and it would be stupid of them to continue like that. They produced seven generations of Evos prior to finally introducing them here in the US... who knows, with how things are going, the X might be the last generation we will see in the near future.

Mitsubishi has had a few record sales months this year in Canada despite the recession (small market compared with the US of course). They sell slightly more cars than Subaru up here. We didn't have Mitsubishi in the late 90's and early 2000's so they don't have the bad rap up here and the dealers seem to be decent. Lancers are everywhere in Calgary.

Back on topic..... IF there were to be a major facelift/upgrade to the Evo, '11 would be the year, correct? Will/CAN Mitsu hold on to its stake in the US long enough for us to see that change? Also, since I don't foresee a huge spike in sales for the '10 models, how will this affect the aftermarket R&D for the Evo? Its already been "out" for over a year and a half (rounding up), and the aftermarket offerings are less than par from what I was expecting.....
