Do you have a laptop that runs XP/Vista fine and has a usb port? If so, AP is a waste of money, if not, the AP will be your laptop (but I would buy a laptop for 500-600 and the tactrix cable still, before I'd buy an AP). The AP is a great product, but even used at 500 they are still over priced considering you can get a tactrix cable for 170 (last I looked) and most of the software needed is free. Then you can switch maps yourself with your laptop and datalog, just like you could with AP.

The good thing about the Cobb AP is it has a lot of predefined flash images/maps (depending on mods) already built-in to it and it's a no-brainer to use. Unless you are a little bit computer savvy... then the laptop+tactrix cable is the way to go... also I don't know where you could get base images/maps, only ones I see floating around are on Gunzo's thread at the evoxforums site.

There are a decent bit of free OTS (off the shelf) maps on COBB's site, Perrin's cost money. The thing with OTS maps though is that they aren't perfect like a custom tune. If you are planning on primarily sticking to OTS maps (and therefore, mods that are supported by them) then I would definitely go with the AP. A custom tune is worlds beyond an OTS map though.

See if you can find a decently price (500-600) used AP and pick it up. I bet the base stock OTS map will satisfy your need for speed for a decent while, then save the other part of the money for a rainy day (or a day where you want more fast parts).

Are you saying it's possible to get the cable and the software and then use one of Cobb's OTS maps and you're good to go? I know it's nowhere near a custom tune, but what kind of gains are expected by doing this? I'm really good with computers and I would be interested in doing it this way. I tried searching but the sheer amount of contradicting information on this forum about DIY tuning is ridiculous.

It is possible to get the AP and download one of Cobb's OTS maps and you are good to go. That's how many many many people are going about things, I know of at least 5 GR STi owners who have a stage 1 or stage 2 OTS map and it is working fine for them. It is not possible to download an AP OTS map and put it on your laptop and use EcuFlash to flash it. You may be able to find OTS maps for the Xs somewhere for different shareware/freeware tuning programs though.

Honestly, it's hard to say the gains, since I don't have a X. I'm pretty confident that they are well worth it, especially if you have no one around to custom tune. I think on a X they are gaining 40-50 whp, and a good chunk of torque, but I'm not sure. The factory tunes on these cars are crap, I got a super basic custom tune done on my car and it's 100 times better than the factory tune.

I've sent you several PMs requesting information about the postal service you used and when you posted it, if its lost in tranist the postal service can usually track it and find it. I have no problems with doing the leg work finding it but it annoys me when you are not helping or answering PMs. Can you see how by not replying to PMs it looks like a scam?

You picked up the money on the 2nd of May claimed you posted it on the 11 of May Last Pm I sent you was on the 7th June which you didn't reply to then I posted in the Scam alert section which you haven't made a reply to there either. I've dealt with several members on this site and have been able to have complete communication during the whole transaction. You on the other hand keep saying you dont receive PMs
