lol shift knob with no grip...what was i thinking.

i'm not sure if it's the way i hold the shift knob, or what...but i have a titanium shift knob, akin to the likes of those with ARC, Blox, etc., with a completely smooth surface. i was at a strip, and as i was pulling the shifter down, half the time my hand would slip right off! as in, i find my hand slipping off the knob on 1-2, and 3-4.

anyone had that same thing happen? are there any weighted knobs out there that are made of, say, faux leather, or anything with good grip?

I have no problem with "grip" when it comes to my TWM weighted shift knob.

Perhaps this might help you with your grip problem...

What the heck are you talking about? You should be able to hold on to anything smooth or not.

Seems like your trying to "pet" the knob as you change gears.

The oem knob is fine but after a year the the first layer of leather starts to come off and looks really ugly.

Uh, I've never had a problem with any of the shift knobs I have on my G35 and S2K. Btw, the Big Type R knob from TWM is sick.. 600 grams.

Put a layer of extra-flexible 3m grip tape on the top.

I have em on the levers on my bike, they grip like glue even when wet.

What are you doing to it that leather is peeling off? Mine's well over a year old now and still looks brand new. Decent amount of miles, too.

To the OP, it's probably the difference between "grabbing" and "pushing" into gears. If you grab it like you're holding a baseball or something when you go to shift you'd probably be fine. Other than that, your options are limited unless you want to alter its appearance by scuffing it up to make it rougher or adding the tape another poster mentioned. Gloves would work, but since that's the obvious solution I assume you've tried that already.

The OEM knob is horrible. It's too light and too small.

like i said, it's probably just my way of holding the shifter. i just never had that problem before with any previous cars i've driven until i got the damn titanium knob. i don't grab it like a baseball bat, but my palm is firmly planted on the top. with leather shift knobs i didn't have the problem. now it won't work even if i have latex gloves even if it did work i won't wear gloves all the time, so it's not very practical.

the whole point of getting a different shift knob for me is to get a weighted one. it does wonders for the shift feel from my opinion.
