Debating getting rid of the X...
The car is insanely fast, extremely reliable, and so easy to drive that I feel like it's almost too good, removing some of the learning curve for me as a driver. The AYC is capable of tightening up my line on-command and the amount of mechanical traction is so large and easy to play with at the limit that the car is almost unreasonably capable.
Strange complaint, no?
Anyway, I'm kicking around an AP1 S2000. No electronics to fix my driving for me, a more traditional RWD layout, and definitely slower than the X. I figure my lap times will increase substantially but I will be able to spend more time learning car control than with the X which seems to uncannily sort itself in and out of throttle.
I'm still not sure; I enjoy passing 99% of cars at HPDEs and driving home when I'm done and I've spent a good bit of money getting the car setup (Robispec Race suspension, AP tuned at Akuma, CCW C14s with R888s) that I feel like I'm going to take a huge hit as a result.
I just don't know; I imagine I'll miss the pace of the car and its fearless tossability. Just tossing some thoughts around now...

The Evo is a phenominal car, but you'll never really learn how to be a great driver in one. If you actually want to be a better driver, get the S2000 or a Miata. Though both are slower in stock form, you'll really learn driving skills. A bonus is that both a MUCH MUCH cheaper to track than the Evo.
S2000s in fully modded form are no joke though. With a good driver and proper mods, even with a huge power disadvantage, they'll still turn in better lap times than modded Evos.

Funny..I just got rid of my 07 S2K and am considering an EVO X. I need more of an all season car with back seats. The S2K is so simple, reliable, and fast....not in a straight line but everywhere else and the brakes are amazing (and cheap). I definately felt vulnerable driving it though as it is very small and does not have side impact air bags. The S2K tail can come out very quickly and you definately can not be lazy driving it fast.
I went from 06s2k to Evo IX to Evo X.
There are certainly times when I miss the lightweight, RWD, and top-down action of the s2000. I doubt very much I could go back to the lack of acceleration though. And I certainly wouldn't have one as a daily driver again. However is the question is if it was a track-only car, then yes an S2K could be just as fun and I agree more instructive. Sounds like the OP will take a bit of a bath financially though.
How about waiting a few more years? There will be plenty of good S2Ks around! You can wait for a great deal to come along.

I say keep it. You can still become a great driver in one. Have you tried fulling disabling the AWC while tracking? You can still become a great driver in a car like an Evo... maybe you aren't pushing yourself enough?
