I have an 08 Lancer (Also 100% Stock) that does the same exact thing. It will crank over and over until you blip the throttle like its a freakin carbureted car. It seems to happen at complete random times regardless of weather conditions or where/when it was parked.

I spoke to my dealer's service dept this morning and he said it could be the car's anti-theft fuel cutoff. There's a chip in the ignition key that car has to detect when the key is in, in order for it to allow fuel to the engine. If you have a lot of keys or other metal objects on your keychain it could interfere with the signal.
Now as far as this goes for an evo with SSS and the FAST key, I couldnt tell you, but what you described sounds exactly like what mine does.

Anyways, I'm having them look at it when I take it in monday for the airbag sensor recall. So if they find anything (which I doubt) ill post here.

 

My car does this weekly it seems, I have a 2004 Ralliart with I dont know what upgrades, my husband did them.

We went to the dealer and its the ignition chip, we need ot have it replaces, just have not had time to.

We have a friend who had the same exact problem, had his ignition chip replaced/fixed and has not a starting issue since.

I have an 09 RA and i have this exact same problem. Its happened to me 3 times so far. 2 times within the last 2 weeks. Anyone know anything esle about this? I have the fast key so it cant be the chip>
