Depends on what part...

No I'm not. The SST can handle a lot more power than a lot of people seem to give it credit for.

But who knows until they do it themselves... Within a month or so I should be pushing just over 300whp on a stock SST (as a baseline, this dyno reads about 185 whp on a stock X). If it explodes then apparently everyone I've spoken to was full of it and therefore I am to. If it holds up, then I'm going to be a damn happy guy.

The motor blowing up - yes very true... I had the car for 11 days, a bearing in the turbo let go, it started to suck oil through itself and then blow it back in through my manifold and out the *** end. I was at Auto X event and on my fourth lap I spun a con rod bearing in cylinder 2 and detonated the wrist pin in cyl 3 cutting two huge slots in the cyl. Warped the head, toasted the turbo, and blew up my oil pump. That day basically sucked.

I've talked it to death... but that was on Evoxforums where I basically took a **** kicking from everyone for not checking my oil level every 24 hours to ensure that there was no problem. Got pretty tired of the attitude!

But yah, warranty covered it all, all $14,000 worth! It did take 2 1/2 months though.

Just put 8000km on the motor, (6000km on the new motor) so it's time to party and put some power into the car.

The SST is an amazing tranny, I drive mine in manual sport or s/sport mode all day.

That being said - if you're a die hard and just can't get enough of using your left foot there's no amount of feedback or comments from anyone that will sway your decision from a GSR.

The short of it - I bought a 2008 MR premium brand new off the lot in June. I had a major problem (motor went boom due to a defect in the turbo) but aside from that I've loved the car. Originally I was looking for a GSR and I couldn't be happier with the MR.
Ya, I am in stop and go traffic a lot so the sst would be nice. I really can't see doing more then what I stated in mods.

The really nice thing is the dealer that has these cars is very mod friendly. The Service manager had a pretty modded up evo x. Heck they sell all kinds of performance goodies right at the dealer - including the cobb ap. Service manager was telling me how they offer packages on exhaust, intake, and tune (done by a shop about 1.5 hours away).

Granted if the mod causes the problem, I'm still sol. But it is nice to know I won't be hassled about replacing a wiper motor because I have a tbe.

Heck the guy has invited me to come take a test drive of a demo 2008 mr they have on the lot, as well as the owners 2010 gsr. Can't wait for Saturday.

Quote: Maybe I don't understand you. The 2008 MR has 12,000 km (7,500 miles) on the odometer. If it has not been sold then those are dealership miles? Either way it is in no way, shape or form brand new anymore.

Do the math. If 2009 GSR to MR difference is $6,000, then 2010 is probably close to that. The loss in value of a 2008 to now is more than $6,000. I think our cars loose maybe $8,000 in value the first two years. That's why people are always up side down on their loans.

What are the two colors? That would make a big difference for me.
Right, good point about the depreciation - even though the 2008 is brand new, as soon as I drive it off the lot, it will be worth a lot less than if I were to drive a 2010 off the lot. Didn't really thing about that. That said, i could get it for about $7500 less (and who knows, maybe there is room for more off as well) than it sold for in 2008, so that helps a bit. I should look into what used 2008 mr's are going for around here.

As already noted, 12 kilometers not 12,000.

If I went gsr, could be pretty much any color, I think. They have a Wicked White coming in on the 22nd - that is actually my first choice in color. They are getting 6 others in february - not sure which colors. I believe the MR is the Octane Pearl Blue.

When I was in the market for one, I had my heart set on a GSR... but you already know that in Canada, we got no options for the 2008 GSR. The 2010 GSR w/ performance package has some better options than the 08, but seriously, for $46k, you'd think the car would come with factory HIDs. Until you can get a GSR with a SSS package, neither is worth it LOL.

That said, I went with a MR premium @ premium price

GSR. You say you would only get the mods you listed. Give that about 3-6 months depending on your personality. After a month with my e85 tune, I was thinking about a Green or BBK. Power = Crack. ****s addicting.

Test drive them and then please post back up here with your driving impressions. If you plan to mod, even at the small amount you're talking about, then based on current Mitsu service bulletins, you've voided the warranty. So, if anything starts going wrong with the SST tranny, you foot the bill for a possible $8000 replacement "part" since Mitsu says the "service" is a complete tranny replacement. You could probably find an indy shop to attempt a go of it, but this would be my concern. With the GSR, you know once you hit a certain power level that the stock clutch needs replacing, but can be upgraded to hold more hp/tq. Plus, the MR shuts down at the track after a few runs when it gets too hot - do you plan to track it?

Get new and get the color you really want. It's not cheap, whatever you purchase, so get the color you want. If you have to buy a new GSR for that, then the old MR wasn't in the picture really. Don't settle for something if you're spending close to or over $30K, imho.

Hate agreeing with the GSR crowd but if the dealer is asking the same $$ for a 08 Evo X MR and a 2010 Evo X GSR, I would jump on the GSR (granted the GSR was SSS pkg). The MRs are great, I love mine to death. Also don't take all those "stick ftw" comments too seriously either, test drive them both first and see what you like. Having come from a MazdaSpeed6, I can tell yah I don't miss the manual tranny at all.

Also take Farmerbob's advice, settle for what you want.
