The Evo is great and tuned, amazing, but cars aren't all built for shorter road courses or rally. Some people love taking their cars on high speed tracks, others to drag strips and some even find enlightenment at the salt mines. A Mercedes Cl 65 will do things at the salt mines and Evo can't and I can appreciate what that Mercedes does just as much as the Evo.
Well said.. as much as I admire the evo, it's just a 4-door performance car which has a 2.0l 4 cylinder engine.. with heavy modification it might equal the GT-R numbers on some tracks, but it would never be a supercar.

Let the GT-R fight the europeans and let the Evo fight the Sti '

If you can afford to own more than one car then the Evo probably isn't that interesting. If you only have one vehicle, though, then the all-purpose capabilities of the car really shines. The Evo does far better than average at many things.

The Streets of Willow is definitely not a normal road track. It's more like a big go-kart track and probably favors the Evo since the speeds are much lower and the corners much tighter. It would be interesting to see what would happen next door at the big track.

The Evo did great though. It's about time someone did a test with a slightly modified Evo.

This can easily be remedied by a center diff pin upgrade. Doesn't cost anywhere $4k to do it either.

I dont think the pin upgrade would have helped in this situation. IIRC, for IL, it ended up being a seal between the ACD and the Tcase.

That is also the first we've all heard of this failure. The suspension bushings can fail too, does that mean we need to add in another $1k since those "can fail"??? There have been many highly modded Xs that haven't had that issue at all, so it isn't safe to say you need to add another $4k to your mod list.

Remember how Edmunds got their car in the first place... it wasn't a new car.

I completely agree with what you are saying. I was just pointing out that i dont think their failure had anything to do with any of the pin failures that have been surfacing.

Just as food for thought the dealership quoted IL $4500 for a new Tcase since they couldnt service or rebuild it. Everyone knows that someone out there would be able to rebuild this unit. For less than $4500 too.

They should do another test on the big track, that's where GTR really shines. It's insane how much down force it has.

I hate driving my GTR on the Streets of Willow. Transmission fluid overheats by 5th lap.

Also, the editor on this article said the average time of EVO X is faster than GTRs average time. Which shows how good EVO Xs are. If you have the money, buy both cars.

I think the GT-R is an amazing car. If I had $100k, I don't know which I'd buy to be honest. I'm not a huge fan of two door cars though.

Or because we can't afford these cars. I would GLADLY take a GT-R over my Evo and I bet 95% of the people on this forum would as well.

IF someone offered to give me their GT-R for my Evo... I'd take it just so I could sell it and buy two more evos. The GT-R is a great car... but an evo is much more practical and more fun to build up.
