(maybe) dumb question bout MR's
anyone with an MR im sure dosen't really use the paddle shifters. when i drive my lancer i cant remember the last time i really used the paddle shifters, if im in sport mode im using the actual shifter not the paddles.
Everyone I know that has an MR uses the paddle shifters... so that's not a true statement. If you aren't using the paddle shifters in sport or super sport mode... you're missing a HUGE part of the SST.
that's the true advantage of sst... near constant acceleration. just this simple fact makes it good for a couple seconds a lap over a standard manual. forgot which magazine compared the two transmissions--but they graphed the speed of gsr vs mr. the mr's acceleration is near constant, and in the end, the mr reached a much higher end speed.

Funny thing is EVEN Porsche one was overheating just like the SST after hard lap time.

I usually just let the computer shift. It's more precise anyway. Also it's hard to time shifts at redline. Also I got the ams knob to make the tunnel shifter longer and easier to reach when I can't reach the paddles like during a turn.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the computer being more precise. I personally think the computer can't possibly tell the future of what you're going to do. It can only read present attributes and make assumptions based on that. The computer doesn't know I may be cruising at 45mph, come up to a long speed bump and brake hard, then accelerate hard. That will fool the SST every time. It will either not shift fast enough and when you accelerate the second time it will fall on it's face, or it will shift too fast and you'll be over revving. I know what I'm going to do before I do it so I can keep the rpms in the sweet spot. I've timed upshifting perfectly. I shift about .5 second before I want it to and it shifts exactly when I want it shifted.
As far as the slapstick, yah some people prefer that to the paddles. I personally would rather move my hand down / up the wheel to shift than to move my hand completely off of the wheel to the shifter. But everyone is different. That's why
gave us choices

When I'm feeling nostalgic for a clutch, I will use the Stick. Even without moving my left leg it still makes me feel like I'm driving a stick. I've driven stick for the better part of 25 years so I know where yer comin from.
I have to say that SST is just an amazing thing! I am not a pro and I have been in a car with someone that had serious skillz so I know that I do not. The SST handles shifting far better than I am able to. In S-Sport mode I've never felt there was a lack of power, never felt as if I was in the wrong gear.
When I am just driving around town, and down-shift - when I hear the engine blip all by itself to the exact RPM needed....well that just reaches down into the part of my Psyche that makes me a man and everything is just right with the world.

Don't contact a dealer, just search Mitsubishi's website which has all the details and you can go through and customize what options you would want and it will add up a price and everything.
Yes it is hard to time shifts manually, especially the 1-2 shift 'cause of the short gearing, but my MR is is less than precise in auto mod (Sport & S-Sport) often just touching the fuel cut (7600?) on hard acceleration causing an irritating hesitation, it is smoother to shift manually trying to lead the tach by 5-800rpm so as to shifting at about 7000.
I have had my MR for 18 months now, and had a 2010 STI for a day to possibly swap. Not a chance would I get the scooby over the EVO, and love driving the SST more than ever after shifting the wallowy, clunky STI.
Do you have to keep the gas pressed on UP SHIFTS for it to rev-match like I do on my STUPID SMG in my m3? I love the SMG until I took it through the twisites and realized I have to keep my foot on the gas for it to rev match up shift.
I donno, I'm waching the the guy next to me and the tach, got to pull the paddle at 6000 so the SST will shift at ~7200 (S-SPORT ... 1st to 2nd gear) and it just gets to 6000 so damn fast when WOT in 1st gear (don't blink) too much multi-tasking for this old geezer, more often than not I'm slow a pulling the padddle. It would be nice if I could just leave it in auto and get a perfect shift but I always get a slight hesitation. Maybe I can tune the hesitation out? (Raise the rev limit? Lower the sst auto shift point? lower the boost (peak 26~27lb's)?)Paul
