(maybe) dumb question bout MR's
I have been looking and searching before asking this question but...actually let me explain why I care.
I have been in Japan for a little over 2 years and will be leaving in october. I have been set on an STI 2010 (2011 if it is out by then) but i have started to lean towards the Evo more and more as my time gets closer.
I know that the MR tranny is supposed to be really great, but something i don't understand is where it says that you can change it to manual shifting. Is there actually a clutch pedal? or does it just turn the shifter into a slap stick?
Only reason i wouldn't want an MR is due to that fact i really like shifting old fashion like.

i want to buy brand new so an older model is out of question. I will have to contact a dealer to see what options i can add. I would like everything on the MR except the fancy tranny. Although after a test drive i may like it. who knows.
Don't listen to those who say you can get all the MR options on a GSR. It simply isn't true. There are SO MANY differences between the top of the line GSR, and the MR.
I think the SST is something that grows on you. From the start it was a bit strange, the off the line slowness is still a bit weird, but I would NEVER trade it for a GSR. I should also mention that I hate automatics, and I hate the way the SST auto shifts when being driven aggressively. I drive it in manual mode 95% of the time. The other 5% is the convenience of an automatic.

i definitely miss my clutch pedal, i'd be lying if i said i didnt, but i really have zero regrets buying the MR. the SST is an amazing tranny and you can slapstick or paddle shift when ever you want
just to offer another opinion... my last many cars (2 AE86's, 240sx, Corvette Z06, S2000, ...) have all been clutches. i do like my mr, but honestly, i wouldn't get the mr if i didn't have one ae86, and the s2000 as well in my current garage. i've driven it for 2 months, and i am fairly certain i wouldn't be able to stand having it as my only car. if i could only have 1, it MUST have a clutch pedal.
driving the mr just isn't the same. it's fast--shifts better than i could ever until the day i mod my body with bioengineered actuators, ha ha. but, that said, it's boring. unless if all you care about is the absolute best track times, or are one of those types that complain about manuals in traffic (i never do--love it), then........ the choice would be obvious to me.
so bottom line: you keeping a manual?, then go for it. only car?--don't get sst.

I quite enjoy my 2010 MR-Touring. I'm not enough of a purist to care about the clutch pedal, I just wanted a fast DD that was fun to drive. Don't have another car other than the evo either. I don't regret the purchase one bit.
