Am I too old for the Evo?
28 here. I've had the same feelings you have about my evo. Part of me feels like its selfish and immature to own such a car. Surely I should be driving a SUV with child seats and strollers in the back..( my wife's Armada) Or some beater I got cheap in spirit of saving some money for my kids college fund or the next family Vacation... But The way I see it is that we could go any day, be it tomorrow or three months from now. And although this car appeals to the young one's ( what I was when I first fell in love with this car, but was to poor to own one) I Still feel very lucky to own one and drive one. Sure maybe a little selfish on my part, but sometimes things you enjoy are just that. I feel I deserve such a fine machine and now is my time to be selfish. I don't see myself selling it for a long time. Best worst investment I have ever made :-)

FWIW, I ask this all the time IRL. Seems the more decorated the car, the later the period.

I am more of the Lada fan. LOL Or the MKII.
But regardless the Manta was an awesome car to watch on the stage
Not that I disagree with your comment, just the opposite, it seems like quite a few folks under 30 feel a bit self-conscious. Not just the OP. You can read their comments on almost every page. Personally, I'd like to know more about those folks' automotive orientations: Like, when did you know you were a car (or a bike) guy, how old were you? Now ask everyone in this thread who's over-40 the same question.

"Yo dog, nice whip."
The base Manta wasn't that much, other than it had a decent paint job. I had one of them to drive, another for parts. But that Rallye model had some progressive action on the steering camber when turned, cool, and had a stiffer set of shocks and springs. Gravel drifting was a blast with a well placed hand-brake. Snow drifting was out of this world.
Jee whizz, don''t be so sensitive! I am hitting 53 this month, and proud to drive my car! Perhaps we can show that professional adults actually own and love these cars.....
Besides, I want to be seen as appreciating cars that have rally heritage. That is important to me. I used to own a few 323GTX and Subarus along the way, with a lot of other cool 4 cylinder and rotary stuff as well....

323 FTW! I had a BPT swapped into my 91 Escort GT...so wish I could of found a full 323 for the AWD.
I agree..... I get it all the time, I am 37 and owned quite a few different makes and models, lets see My 98 Supercharged YSI Cobra, My C5 Vette, and I had a couple Evos. I get comments all the time in any car I owned from different ages, it doesn't bother me, cause I have been a car guy since I was a young teenager.

I am 42 and this is my second Evo. I have owned Audis, BMW's, Mustangs and a 350Z. I loved all of them but the Evo is my favorite. Age has nothing to do with it at all.
My Dad is 75 and he has a 2008 NISMO Z. A Petrol head is a Petrol head regardless of age.

I'd actually say that Petrol heads get better tastes with age. I have better appreciation for the value (performance for price) of this car than I would have 20 years ago. Certain design decisions I can tell are brilliant when I might have thought them accidental or overlooked them in my youth.
Really
Dude im 43 and just bought a evo cause my wife wouldnt let me put baby in my jeep.
Hey Guys,
Let me first start off by saying that I have put a lot of money into this car, so even if I don't drive it, I'm not going to sell it. However, I'm 27 and wondering if people my age feel the same way I do.
Whenever I drive this car, I get people staring at me and thinking it's a teenager driving it. When they see me (6' 8") they think wtf am I doing driving a car like that!?!?!?! Are people in the same boat as me? Is it me? I mean I like the Evo, but is the sound of a loud exhuast on a 4 door to "old" for me? I'm sure there are people out there that think the same way I do.
Zeus
