How to go from 23mpg Highway to 29mpg
I'm getting 20 mpg in town and 25 on the highway. I have the receipts to prove it. I filled up with gas, drove to KC and filled again. 25 mpg. That was on winter gas, I have not tested since they've switched us over to summer, but I'm seeing 21 or so in town now.
I've upped my timing by 3* or so in my cruise area. The 40's are now 43* and some others have been increased by more to ~38*. This is all in the 2250-4000 RPM and 0-80 load areas.
My exhaust timing is -10 to -15* in that cruise area and my intake is 10 to 15* in the cruise area.
I also am running a Recirc BOV set so that it stays Open during cruise. This allows air to bypass my non-spooled turbo and eliminates some resistance. I saw 2 mpg increase with this.
Lastly, I run 91 octane fuel with 0% Ethanol. 10% E will reduce gas mileage. Granted, I don't have a choice, as 93 octane 10% E is not available near me.
I am still working on my econ, and I will be running more tests on every trip I take with the X. Next set of tests is scheduled for April 2nd.

I have a Z-Chip and wideband and used these to lean out the mixture a little. This allowed me to go from ~21 to ~23mpg combined without any loss in performance. I live in Colorado and do a mixture of highway and city driving. I don't make any effort to stay out of boost.
I had to drive 50 some miles today on the highway and got 33.x MPG . Thats just one trip of normal driving using cruise control. On average I would say I get 24-25 MPG at best.
So that statement is null for mileage. Unless you filled up to full, drove 50 miles then filled up again to full and used your miles driven divided by your gallons filled.
I'm unsure how you're even getting a 17mpg average. If I drive my car somewhat normally to work, I average 14-15. If I'm having fun, more like 12-13. Highway for any long period, it doesn't matter how fast I go, it's about 23mpg. If I slow down consistently to 65-75, it's as high as 26mpg.
I'm bone stock.

But your mpg's sounds about right.
This whole thread is only about people that keep saying they get high mpg's just because their center lcd reads something without bothering to actually check each tank.
