I have a generic windshield in my 08 X and theres no difference except it doesnt have the diamond-star thing on it. Big deal. A kid thru a baseball sized rock off a hiking trail while I was driving with my girlfriend last summer. Hit right where the rear mirror mounts up, poof. No, I didnt catch him.

did you have it installed by body shop or by those auto glass specialists?

you can still choose to pay for oem. if it is a good insurance company, they will pay for it esp since there are no generic ones. ask for the deductible, can be $100 only?

Just out of curiosity, I just called a local glass shop to ask them if they have a windshield for the Evo. No problem, $329 installed. You should be calling a glass shop, not a dealership.

About a month of owning my X a random rock tore up my windshield too. I had it replaced by a Auto glass shop for like 130 bucks and they drove to my work. The windshield they sold my is much thicker that Mitsu's.

safelite>glass shops

make sure you click "no claim" if you are paying out of pocket-it's probably cheaper

sounds good to me.

The oem glass from mitsubishi is crap, i think the MR might have slightly thicker glass(as part of the sound proofing package) but on both my 08 es and 09 gts i have a rock chip, my 09 gts has one dime sized rock chip and 3 smaller rock chips, i have also met up with 2 local evo x owners that also have chipped windshields...

seems the oem windshield is crap,. take advice of some people who have replaced with aftermarket which is thicker and cheaper than the dealership.

Its what they do every day.

Spoken truth, this is exactly what the dealership will do.

also i just read your posts $900 + labor for a windshield ?!?!

the price dropped to 700 plus labor. i've read a bunch of horrible things about the glass company such as Safelite uses, they make their own glasses, so it may not be up to oem standards. if i'm to replace a side window glass, i would definitely go with the cheapest route but front windshield is different. i'm trying to go through my insurance company with this.

i understand what you are saying but look at it from the other side, since the 08 evo x and lancer have been out there have been a couple of people complaining about the thin glass used on the windshield.

thread from back in 08

and another from 09

^these may not be totally relevant just something i searched real quick, because i remember reading alot about the windshields after mine chipped so easily.

The way i see it is I personally would not want to pay 700+ labor to replace a windshield when it has a pretty good chance of cracking or chipping again. You may never experience another crack ,I mean its not like you can predict when you may get stuck behind a concrete truck that is just dumping rocks in front of you.

at least call some other places or go to some well known glass places before paying the dealership. i like to use the dealership only when necessary (as in recalls/ tsb's or work that requires mitsubishis tools like the MUT tool)

well, i felt a little bit more comfortable about my decision now. called the dealer, they told me they haven't charge my card yet, so told them to wait. just called the local Safelite shop, the guy there quoted me 1100 installed using their own manufactured glass. f*ck that, i'm getting the real one from the dealer for cheaper.
