this blows, have to replace windshield on my two day old Evo
well, it didn't last. got a rock chip on my front windshield today and that expanded into a two feet long crack after couple minutes. i now definitely need to replace the windshield. question is do i need to get the Mitsubishi genuine windshield which insurance co. won't cover or the genetic one which they do cover. i'm so p*ssed off right now.
I had my windhsield break on me a couple days after i bought my WRX back in '06. A couple months later the replacement broke. I think i went through 4 windshields with that car. It had heated windshield too so it sucked every time it broke.

just called my dealer, they want 891 plus labor for the genuine windshield, and told me since the '10 Evo is so new, they don't have the generic one out yet.

insurance only pay for generic type, not the mitsubishi oem ones. problem is i've been calling couple dealers now and no one knows if they can even order a non-oem windshield at this point for my Evo since it's an '10 model.
Good luck

you sure i can use the '08 W/S? my local body shop was able to find a genuine '08 W/S for 500 bucks. but he kept telling me he can't guarantee that it'll fit on my '10. should i just go with that instead of paying dealer over 1k for the replacement.
Sounds like the places you are calling just want more money, keep calling around you will eventually find one. I am surprised to hear that the insurance company wont cover it. What if it was hail that broke it, would they cover it then?

they'll cover, but just not the mitsubishi oem windshield. they'll cover the generic one, no problem. but i've called two dealers and one local body shop, they all told me the '10 Evo is too new to have any generic windshields available.

is it safe to drive with a crack two feet long? the local body shop guy told me it's okay since the windshield is made of two panels and only the outside one has the crack, but he told me cops will give me ticket if they see it.
It seems that a 2008-2010 lancer and lancer evo should have the same windshield since they are all the same platform. Have the dealer show you part numbers for a 08 and a 10...they should bring the price down then lol
Maybe the lancer ones are thicker but that should be the only difference
