help start moving :(
one of the best drills to practice start/stop driving is to attempt to drive the car (slowly) in 5-10 feet increments. this allows you to quickly learn the car's engagement point and forces you to focus on balancing the clutch/gas mixture to and fro. of course, practice this in an empty parking lot.
also, once you've drilled a few times do this now in reverse, pretending you have to slowly back out with grocery carts behind you. pretty soon you will have learned how to move our car from a dead stop.

Thanks for the reassurances guys! I'm definitely not giving up. It's just frustrating at times. I agree it's pretty ridiculous for a first manual car. After all I've driven stick a handful of times and like you say each car is different it is all about feel. It's just that in my situation you take into consideration noticing things before actually owning a manual vehicle. An example would be seeing people roll back a bit at a slightest incline. Another example would be hearing a car rev next to you before it starts moving. People drive different styles. Older cars without the delay valve "shock" I guess people don't have a problem adding throttle before the bite. Which I noticed. Hell maybe they go through clutches quick. Like I said, when sitting that first manual car... things like this go through my mind. I shift from one technique to the other causing a learning curve. I can let out the clutch slowly no problem and get to the bite no problem it's just that in my mind if I'm the first one at the light, it seems a little too slow and people will start honking. Sure, I know it definitely is better than stalling.... but its just the idea of being too slow getting up to there. Your absolutely right... its in my head and I need to learn to trust the clutch more. I do realize I probably am burning the clutch faster than usual, but I'm also at the 600 mile mark which shouldn't be too bad and the engagement is still real high and doesn't slip. Replacing it isn't and issue since I know this is my first manual tranny and hell it's a turbo too. Like some people said... learning to drive this thing is a totally different whole ballgame when taking into consideration what they have driven in the past and what they are used too. As always thanks for the support!
help was offered and refused. good luck believing all the fail info spread in the forums.
Go to empty parking lot and practicing your first gear taking off and stopping. I would rent a manual car to learn how to drive stick first. Just gonna be paying for it in the short run. Good luck.
Thanks for the offer about this weekend dek, but I have to be at work for taking down and putting back up systems after a backup generator installation. Unfortunately, I don't have as much free time as I would like to. But, with the blah blah blah attitude of yours toward sum1 really wanting to figure things out, I don't think you would have made a very good teacher. Best wishes man. Also thanks to the guys who are helping me out in PM

Lol Steve, this isnt rocket science seriously. I had NEVER drove a AWD car when i purchased my evo. I learned how to drive as soon as i drove it out the lot. Ive only stalled my car 2 times since purchased. What are you supposed to expect when you blatanly come onto a forum and post that you have been trying to learn how to drive stick for 3 MONTHS!!......
That to me is just sad. Gl, also, save some cash right now cause your going to need it when your clutch goes out... pretty soon.

I figured I'd post somewhere respectable with a group of individuals who share a common interest in the car and have some experience that would give me some helpful tips... rather than some random car club forum where less than a handful of people drive the vehicle. I hope that clears why I'm here. Congrats on on only stalling twice.
Drive your car more aggressive in first gear. Rev it up to 3k rpm and slowly let go your clutch to start moving. That's how i learned on my friends car though. Try experimenting and getting use to each rpm you let go of. 3 Month you should've gotten it down by now. This is the forum and internet is srznezzzzzzzzzzzz business. Don't expect not to get flamed.
haha i cant believe this thread is serious. evo's dont like to see very low rpm's(1.5-2.5k rpms). I came from a MKIII supra and drive is completely different (Evo is much better
). Just practice man and start saving for an aftermarket clutch haha. You cant get good at anything in life without practice!

doesn't that burn your clutch a lot?

Never had a problem in my old civic when i drove it like that in the first week. Drove for 20k miles and the clutch was still great, don't think the clutch ever went out for the 1st and 2nd owner. I drove like that because it was my first manual car til i get to know what rpm to switch at with my pace of the clutch. I stalled like 3-5 times that week til i finally got it down. Can't be worst then your clutch is facing though. Good luck.

I dont need to rev the crap out of it... I usually rev upto 1200 or 1300 rpm then slowly let the clutch out.
I did find that with the clutch restrictor pill IN the pedal was much less predicatable.
I probably stalled my car 4 times since owned.. and only once with the restrictor pill out

woot figured it out today. little creep on the clutch then gas action. I got a letter from mitsu today with a 5 year roadside assist on the car. what turned out to be an eternity only has been a month with the car. now just to get to the engagement a little faster but not too fast. hopefully that will pickup as I drive it around more. thanks for all the help guys
This, as entertaining as it is, is a great thread.
I haven't driven, for more than a trip around the block, manual in around six or seven years, and I plan on picking up an 08' GSR, as soon as I can figure my finances out, and I'm just gonna' take the week off of work and drive all day and night until I get the hang of it.
