Clunking noise in Reverse

Just started about a 1000 miles ago...

Everytime I put the car in reverse... the car makes a clunk sound one time... and then when I put the car in 1st gear... it clunks again.

Now, it only happens when I move in those directions... I've checked for loose bolts and such, but cant find anything.

Any idea what I might have missed or should check?

My car has been making a clunking noise for the last 1000-1500 (when intially engaging reverse and when letting clutch out in 1st) but now it is making a grinding noise which comes and goes as I roll forward slowly like something on the axle or wheel/brake (it goes away after getting to 15+mph). taking it to Mitsu on Monday

Not sure if it is related but after driving on the freeway for about 15-30 minutes when I get to my destination from the rear seat or trunk it sometimes smells like burning rubber but it is a faint smell, figured it was just newness but I've got 9k on it now.

hahaha thats the fork going into reverse and it coming back out when you put it in first nothing to worry about. I think almost every standard transmission will start to do this once its broken in. now if its grinding then you should worry haha
