Keyless FOB Battery died ?
Keyless FOB Battery died ?
Has anyone experienced the keyless ignition system battery problems? I have two from the factory, and one has been left in the house, the other I use daily but I NEVER use the remote buttons on it, I always touch the door to unlock/lock the vehicle.
Does the battery life get depleted more (guesses are ok here) more rapidly just being in the car? As an IT guy and engineer, I would have guessed the key was a standard RFID chip, passive not active and that the power would come from the car, where it is the car that figures out if the RFID was one that is paired with the car. That's the passive design for my other vehicles that have electronic circuitry in the key that needs to paired with the vehicle.
I also would have figured the keyless stuff and ignition would have gone away too, but its still able to do that without any noticable degradation or sporadic behavior. (The fob LED still lights up, as bright as the working FOB does).

I know from experience if you leave the key in the car with the car off, then it will kill the battery, so I would assume it could kill the key also. I had to ship my car to germany and it was dead bc when they put it on the boat they leave the key in the car when its inside the container.
Dang, learned something new. I tried to see if "repairing" and re-teaching the car was viable, but the manual seems to require both OEM keys to be functioning before adding set #3... That manual is tough to read. I guess I'll crack it open and replace the $4 battery.
And "Yes", I keep the keyless in the pocket all day next to my cell phone. Now that you mention it, my phone dies VERY quickly but only when around that FOB. Geez... I should have figured that out, I do IT for a living. Thx everyone!

Turns out the new battery didn't fix it. This other post I eventually found gave me new insights, phone problem yes, battery no. Dealer! Phewy!
