go to the dealer with these symptoms. they will give you the relay(s).

even if it isn't the relay, you want the relay anyways, and more-so you want to eliminate it as causal factor.

My first X did this when it was a warm start, probably about once a month. It didn't matter if it was hot or cold outside. From a cold start, though, it never did it.

my 2010 MR has done this once but I knew it probably would have done that. i was trying to instigate the problem and it happend the first try... basically you can't get in and start it immediately, i found that if you just let it sit in accessory for a few seconds and then crank it that it runs perfectly after that. could be that pump relay everyone is talking about?

i gaurantee you it's not the battery from the symptoms you are having

I've also had this happen 5 or 6 times in the 18 months that I've owned the car, but haven't been able to correlate to anything (hot, cold, warm start, etc). Has happened before and after updated relays. In all cases, I shut if off, waited ~30 sec and then it started the next time but had to give it gas once or twice before it started idling correctly. I've decided to ignore it unless it gets more frequent.

I had this all the time on the stock tune. I got tuned and it all went away. If your car is totally stock then have your dealer check if you have the latest ROM.

Could be battery or just a bad relay. How long does it sit? or is it a DD?

Is your car equipped with the FAST key system? I've had a few X's come into the shop with the same problem, some won't even start the car at all. There is a TSB out to replace both keys and program them to the car. It seems to be a common problem on earlier X's. Hopes this helps.
