K&N HP1010 or HP1004

fit wise for evo x, does anybody know which is a better k&n oil filter between HP1010 and HP1004?

i searched k&n's website and they listed HP1004 and searching the application guide for HP1010, it also listed the evo x.

i've never seen the two filters side to side with the factory MD356000.

thanks.

I used the HP1010 last time since Advance was out of the Mobil1 filters and it's smaller the the stock and the Mobil1 filter.

Totally coincidental, but I was looking up the same thing for a customer today and saw the new listing.
I always use the 1004, but now I am curious as to the difference.
I will have both in stock tomorrow to compare.
I am sure both are good, but curious as to what the difference is.

Looks like the HP-1010 is just a bit bigger. We stock and sell the HP-1004.

Looks like either would be fine but HP-1010 might be closer to the stock size.

I use the HP1010. Its smaller than the stock one but works great. I used it for the 3 or 4 oil changes and no problems.

If you do the math it comes out that the HP-1004 has more volume.

i used the HP1010 for my 4B12 when i had my GTS. If you didn't know the 4B12 is a 2.4L engine. I'm guessing the 1004 is made for the evo, not hp 1010

doing the math (assuming wall thickness is the same on both):

HP 1010: 21.198 in^3

HP 1004: 26.405 in^3

I'd go with the 1004, it's about 19.7% larger, volume-wise

Idk just a week ago I did my oil change with HP-1004 and it fits perfectly fine on my
2011 Lancer Evolution GSR. No leaks or anything and my dipstick is the same. Maybe the guy in Pepboys doesnt know how to install it? hmmm...
