Wow. You will be taking a huge financial hit. If you are willing to do that, instead of letting a dealer benefit, why don't you try swapping with someone for an Evo X here? Or sell it yourself?

How can you make such a huge financial decision and not be 100% about it? Keep the STI for at least a couple years or get raped pretty self-explanatory.

I just saw the 2011 STI on the street and I thought it looked pretty good. From what I remembered about the STi, the engine had much less turbo lag than the Evo. I still miss that but that's all I miss.

Im not a hate machine against STI but the EVO just has much better handling and comfort. The dashboard of the EVO is much easier to look at for me and the STI one just seems to be more of a "boy racerish". Not that there is nothing wrong with that look but its not my style, I like being subtle, looking like its just another car and then bam, off goes the cruise missile. As for your situation thou man, I would honestly keep it because you will get "raped" by the dealers and loose quite a few grand. If you have no problems loosing money id say f*** it and trade it. Because in the end, you are going to be much happier with the EVO (at least is what I assume since you even brought up the issue) and if you just keep the STI your eyes and heart is just going to be for an EVO and not what you drive. STI is a great car, its not ****ty by any means but EVO is... well.. EVO, you dont need words to describe it!

I've never driven a 6sp - can anyone explain if having a 6th gear requires you to downshift to 5th any time you want enough acceleration to pass someone on the highway?

I think that's the biggest pro of the 5 speed... yes the RPMs are slightly high on the highway, but it also gives you passing acceleration without requiring a downshift.

I have an 04 STi, and at no point did I need to down shift to 5th to pass. Just a blip of the throttle and pass.

P.S. Just get some cusco or Ohlins COs and your good.

I bought the X simply from my "gut" knowing I'd love it - repeat LOVE IT. Not that hard to fathom. The STI did tempt me, but a test drive contrasted its understeer to the Evo's oversteer. Game, set and match.

Kelly Blue Book has a 32,000 trade in for a 2009 STI in "excellent condition", 2000 miles. So if you've a new 2011 with that many miles or thereabouts, you should be able to get into an Evo X for even money.

I don't blame you. The STI has the X beat on straight line speed, torque and usable space. Oh, also beats the X on "easy to drive" and "smooth" ride. Those latter two are debatable as "better" though, IMO.

Afficiando's seem to say the STI is more modifiable, but I can't ever imagine a mod making it look as sharp and aggressive and fast as the Evo X.

Thanks everyone for the input, but I have made up my mind. I'm 70% sure that comes Monday I'll be driving down to the Mitsubishi Dealer and trade my STi for an Evo X.

I try to convince myself to keep it but I just can't seem to find anything good about the STi. This is by far the worse decision I've made in my entire life because I'll be losing some money but the X's are being sold for pretty cheap now since the 2011 X's are on its way and the dealer is trying to get rid of the 2010.

Let's hope the dealer gives me a decent amount for my 6 week old car with 1050 miles on it.

Thanks again guys for everything.

Dude, relax, no worries. Bad decisions: telling your parents something really bad the night before one of them dies. Ignoring your children and watching them grow up as incompetant little buttheads. Calling your beloved wife a name that you can never retract. Choosing to marry your high school sweetheart instead of going to college.... In the real big picture, screwing up a big purchase isn't that bad. It's money and you can't take it with you.
