Is a 2011 MR Touring the car for me?

I've been looking at a ton of new cars. My budget is 45-50k and I have way to many options. I just recently started considering an MR Touring. I didn't really think of them at first because I always remembered them being too flashy and boy racer. The X's definitely look better and toned down. I'm looking for car that is fun to drive, has AWD, but also has comfort and a good quality interior. I was looking mostly at premium/luxury cars but most of them are too boring and generic. How is the quality of the Touring package in the MR? Is it a constantly stiff ride or can I cruise and take it easy and have a comfortable ride. I know this is a dedicated performance car but it seems like Mitsubishi is trying to target a wider audience with the X.

there nice but more on the sporty side so yes the ride isnt gonna be like a caddi or bmw. but evos rape in the snow (with good tires not oem) i might add lol. i think there very pleasing on the inside but its a love hate thing for the seat. i would say go drive it and see how you like it dont relay on opions that people have its YOUR car! goodluck and hope to see you on here

The test drive will set you free brother.

Your going to get a whirlwind of opinions off this forum from all types of guys speaking all kinds of craziness. Take what they say in, but at the end of the day its your car and your decision to make...plus a test drive never hurt anyone.

I came from an 06 Maxima, not the most renowned luxury vehicle on the market, but much more luxurious then most. I was actually surprised by how comfortable the ride is in the evo. The suspension is not as stiff and unforgiving as most would think seeing the numbers it can pull on the road course. The only noticeable differences I have encountered are the road noise is a lot higher in the evo, but honestly who cares, I didn't buy a sporty car to not hear the beast at work, and that's really about the only thing I feel like I gave up.

The car is spacious, practical, great looking, great driving, but most importantly.. fun.

Not to mention, if modding is your scene, the sky is the limit with these cars because of the factory boost application. Help the car breathe better with the right exhaust and a good tune and your making well over 60 awhp more then factory. Its unbelievable.

remember the trunk is tiny. the battery and washer fluid are in the trunk so not only do you have very little space, you cant fold down the rear seats.

also the seats are 4 way adjustable only. no height adjustment. no lumbar. on long rides it may give you some back aches. the steering wheel is also non-telescopic so if you don't fit just right, YOU have to adjust to the car, not the car adjusting to fit you. someone who came from a luxury car would kill themselves. also old people. most people here are young and dont mind but lets be honest, we'd all love us some lumbar support eh?

last but not least it eats fuel like mad and has a small gas tank.

so the question is, how sporty do you want this car to be? imo the evo is 90% sportscar 10% sedan. you have to make compromises if you want that level of performance at this price range... if you want a mix of both go 335i. best all around car for the money.

very very true, Although it only costs me 28-30 dollars now to fill up the tank, I find myself there at least two times a week, whereas with the maxima it was closer to 50 to fill up but only there once a week.

The recaro seats can be uncomfortable, I'm 6'3 with a 38 inch waste, so the part where you park your *** can get uncomfortable with these child bearing hips, I have to position myself just right and the lower back can take a beating from the lack of lumbar..

However, I still enjoy driving to and from work much much more now.

Yea the stuff you guys mentioned is what concerns me. The seats don't sound comfortable at all and I didn't know they were only 4-way adjustable. Also, I don't want a ton of road noise. I'm not interested in a BMW because I see way too many of them where I'm from. They're like the Toyota Camery of the Northeast. I'm young so I should be able to deal with this stuff. I'm in my early twenties. I used to have an AMG Mercedes and I drove that thing like a lunatic but I'm not into that whole scene anymore. I like fun cars but I like to cruise and be comfortable. I guess I'll just have to test drive one and see what it's like.

The seats do have lumbar support, the whole seat is supportive....you just can't adjust it...

dont get me wrong the seats are SUPER supportive, but ONLY if you fit in them. because its so unadjustable, it can either be the best seat you ever sat in (many here would say that) or the worst....

for me, i dont go long distances so its a non-issue. but when i did, it was not as comfy as rolling around town....

I'm a pretty average size so I should fit well. I'm 6'1" with a 34" waist 195lbs. I'll just have to sit in it and see how it fits for me.

I do plan on some longer drives with whatever car I end up with. Most of the driving will be shorter distance stuff but I do like to take road trips and things like that. I figured the touring package with the improved sound dampening and all that would help make the car somewhat comfortable for longer rides. But I'm also used to taking long rides on motorcycles so I guess any car would be comfortable compared to that.

Would it be possible to add even more sound dampening materials to the car, like some of the Dynamat products?

Also what are people paying for these. I guess the sticker for a loaded MR Touring is 44K or so. Are people getting much off MSRP? Or should I basically expect to pay retail because it's a somewhat limited performance car?

If the road noise gets too much for you, there is the how-to on how to install the dynamat. I didn't mean to say the car was obnoxiously loud, cruising at 80 you can def still have a conversation in the car, trust me.. my girlfriend takes full advantage of that. Thats why its time to get a new, louder exhaust.

Panel deadening materials like Dynamat won't do much to decrease road/drivetrain noise. The products are meant to decrease panel vibrations. It's not the same thing. Laid end-to-end, covering the entire surface of the car, deadening materials can decrease noise much like a heavy blanket. OTOH, mass-loaded vinyl does decrease noise albeit at a cost (price, weight, intrusion into the interior):

If the work is meant to compliment an audio system, there are better ways to go. If the project is meant to quiet down the car for a greater sense of comfort, buy another car.
