I kept RPM below 5k as well but I always kept the RPM needle moving. I also changed oil @ 1,000 and started mashing it after.

i bought mine in august which is also a new 2010 MR and changed the oil at 3K. came out just fine but i was worried it might be slightly chunky since it was sitting for a year. it wasn't but its probably a good idea to change it at 1K and again at 3K & every 3K from there on.

Regular scheduled maintenance calls for an oil chance at 5k miles interval with synthetic; I always did mine at 3k miles.

5k miles. Factory-fill oil has a high moly count to assist with break-in.

"High moly count" means that they add more molybdenum to the oil.

I changed my oil at 1000 miles the first time. Then about every 2500 miles after that.

I wouldnt do 5K miles, the new 2010s they suggest 3K miles oil change. 5K just seems to long especially on how we drive our cars.

Did my first right at 1k, 2nd at 3k and just did the 3rd at 5500. I use the 5W-30 M1 EP and get the OEM filters from the local Mitsu dealer.

Yes I know, it's probably excessive but it's become habit, I've changed the oil on all my cars every 2500-3k with Mobil 1 sythetic. I beat the snot out of my WRX for 90k and it ran just as good on the day I sold it as it did the day I bought it. I like to think going with high quality oil and changing it often helped.
