Daily Driver EVO?

Hey guys,

So I've been eying an SE EVO and wanted some opinions about daily driving.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but I went back 10 pages and didn't see anything so here goes.

How is the EVO for a daily driver? I know it's a harsh ride, but what about things like road noise and feel?

I drive about 20 miles a day, mainly highway. Can you cruise at 70 and still hear the radio at a reasonable volume? How is the transmission for highway driving (with SST)? I heard the '08 models had weird gear ratios, is '10 better?

Any feedback on daily driven EVO's would be great.

Thanks.

I daily drive mine in the Los Angeles area with no problems.

There is road noise, stiff suspension and all that harshness. The radio in the car is awesome (though I have the SS package). It is no Mercedes or BMW in terms of comfort; however, the thrill of the turbo, 5 speed (or SST) and power are extremely enjoyable for everyday driving. It also has practically with usable rear seats. Gas mileage is bad though.

I do alot of highway driving so I can give you some feedback on the GSR.

The engine is pretty loud. There seems to be almost no sound deadening material between the engine compartment and the cabin. It's a nice sound though it's not obnoxious.... just loud.

If you turn the radio off you can hear the BOV and turbo a bit too. If you want a quiet car this isn't it. If you don't mind the sound of "performance" (for lack of a better word) then go for it.

My GSR is my DD. My old IX MR was my DD too.
If you don't mind a slightly-harder ride in your DD, then it's perfect IMO. Sucks a little bit in bumper-to-bumper traffic, but other than that it's a great car for DD.

It all depends what car are you coming from, I used to drive an 09 tl - awd before the X, and found X to be on the pretty harsh side. IMO the stereo sucks, it's just loud and unrefined compared to my tl. But, if you look past it the X is a very capable daily driver even more so with the SST as the it's not as loud as the gsr due to the extra gear.Keep in mind that the seats are firm and the trunk space is minimal and a full tank will last about 200 miles with mixed driving.

I returned my SST to get a 5 speed GSR for daily driving. Yes the SST was quiet compared to the 5 speed but the SST is soooooooo boring.

I hear ya, the SST feels like you are playing a gran turismo in playstation 3.hehehe..I just prefer shifting with my hand and clutch on my left foot..More fun that way..

Its no luxury car thats for sure. There are multiple rattles on the interior and the road noise is pretty bad.. It's all about loving the car and the fun of driving it far outweighs any nuisances like that.

Plus there is no rattle the stereo cant drown out

Thanks for the feedback guys.

To give some perspective, the car I'm coming from is an MR2 Spyder, which has the engine located right behind my head. It's a fun little car, but the engine noise on the highway is pretty annoying, especially with only 5 gears I'm hitting about 4K revs - makes it hard to listen to music.

Sounds like the X will be quieter. I'm looking forward to the stiffer ride too
