High Alt

So if I understand this correctly - my 2010 gsr stock puts out 265 whp , and in denver, at 5280 feet it loses (according to some track guys) 18% of that due to altitude. Putting me around 218whp...

...is that right or even close?

Various mfrs of exhaust and cai parts say they evo can put out about 100 additional hp with a tune and those parts. So does that mean, at my altitude i would get only about 75whp out of them?

what are the guys with bolt-ons and tunes dynoing/running relatively close to my altitude?

BTW - i am new to evo's and tuning so I am just trying to get a base understanding of where to start and what parts to plan for in the future for my evo x. cheers!

chek my sig, I was tuned at TOBZ in denver. You will lose a certain percentage of HP due to the elevation

Evo's lose far more then just 26 hp through the drivetrain, They put out 291 at the crank, most ppl dyno around 215-220 at the wheels totally stock from what I see.

Sounds about right.
Ive seen stock 11 STIs getting about 210-215hp on a dyno with no mods.

Sucks to be up this high
Had my vette at sea level and when I moved back to CO I thought something was wrong with it when I first got use to driving it around in CO again.

Those only numbers you're worried about. It isn't like the car next to you is breathing denser air, you all are down on power up there. An increase in power is an increase in power.

No, those numbers mean nothing more than when a friend asks how much whp my car has, i am able to answer them correctly.

funny thing is, i was looking at the exact same mods as 08evoVA has :P

Any words of caution on those parts or are they 100% awesome? (good to get info from a guy actually running the parts for some time now.) No issues or breakdowns from them or the tune? (i don't expect any btw, just asking in case you have some gotchas for the items or tune.)

cheers!

I would think with a turbo this is all minimized ??

My guess is that air flowing in is proportional to the amount of air that can be compressed.

So with less dense/less o2 you can only have a turbo spool and compress so much, which is less than normal.

This could mean the turbo simply takes longer to build up the required o2 amount the engine is looking for, or that it just is unable to compress it as well.

Either way sounds like a HP/power loss.

but that's just a novice guess...

With a conservative tune, and no knock.... had a hi-flo cat, custom exhaust with a AEM filter attached to the OEM MAF housing, and a custom upper intercooler pupe, made 280 uncorrected at MAC. This was on a very conservative pump gas tune.

Stock intercooler, boost pill, everything else. Keep in mind, I have just about 50k miles now. This is a daily driver haha.

But Turbo normalized means maintaining sea level pressure not boosted. I know thats not the case here but if we have a "waste gate" this prevents boosting beyond factory specs which we all know is possible. Someone who is an expert or very knowledgeable about these EVO stock turbo performance details should be able to answer this very easily.

You will lose some but the whole 3% per 1000' in elevation is not correct for forced induction. Turbos make there own atmosphrere so while elevation does affect them not nearly as much as an n/a car. My fp red will only hold 25 psi up here, where sea level guys hold 30 sucks to be us. But hey makes all the n/a cars that much slower. Two ways to tell what your car is making up here. Data log it and put into vdr or go dyno it, just make sure it is a true uncorrected graph. An sae correction really skews thing up here for our cars.
