Is 64K miles a lot?

My EVO X is my daily driver. Commute to work every day with it.

I think my stock clutch is starting to go (slips a little too much in first and it's "catch" point is really high), but if i replace the clutch and flywheel, I'm thinking about a downpipe and testpipe to go with it.

Is 64K miles too much to start adding more power parts?

BTW - Added here because I dont think many people with the Evo X have that many miles on theirs yet... hoping the previous generations can shed more light...

In no way is 64k too many miles. But when you replace your clutch and flywheel go with good quality parts don't skimp here.

I'm hoping to end up going with a clutchmasters FX300 (purely because of its anticipated lifespan) and a quality flywheel. I need the car to last well into the triple digits and i don't want to replace it again!!!

What kinda mileage do you have on your VIII if you don't mind me asking?

What power mods do you have now and plan to do in the future? This should be a factor in the type of clutch you get. Each clutch has a torque rating and you don't wanna get something that won't hold up to the power your putting down. Likewise, you don't want to get too fancy and get a clutch with a high rating and your planning to run stock.

I have been unable to find the specs on CM clutches. The only thing the website says is the holding capacity is 110% over stock for the FX300. I went with ACT for my new clutch. The main reason is that their website had all the specs posted there and it fit my needs. I'm not endorsing ACT products but that is what works for me.

It depends what kind of miles we're talking about.. Are these 64,000 miles of abuse to the car? If not, then you should have nothing to worry about. Especially if you're the only owner.

ive owned two evo's.... the 03 viii that i sold had 80k on it before i sold it and it ran fine...i think the biggest thing is just regular maintainence as with any vehicle...oil changes and then in your case timing belt/water pump...dont go cheap obviously...just do it on time and spend what you need to now so you dont end up spending a fortune later. enjoy!

Take this into consideration... When BMW was building their 1.5L 1,200hp race engines back in the 80s, they utilized old used blocks with no less than 100k km on them.

yes, 64k is waayyy too much. you should sell it and buy a new one. no way you should think about modding a car at 64k...that's insane!!! although, I know a guy that waited until 172,000 miles to mod his EVO IX MR....what was his name?

i laughed.

Replace that clutch, and if something else breaks, replace it with superior quality aftermarket parts.

Start modding whenever, the car has plenty of life in it!
