I'm getting an Evo?

I'm actually surprised to say this, but at the end of this year, I'll have enough cash to get an evo!

I was dead set on getting a ralliart this summer, but If I just wait another 6 months, I can get an evo. I want the 5 speed. I don't trust the Twin clutch.....plus, I like having a clutch. period. Every car that I ever own from now until the end of TIME will have a 3rd pedal!

here is my dilemma: I heard that there were alot of problems with the New evos...You'd think that a $30,000+ car could give you zero worries for the first 100,000 miles at least. I must admit, that I'm scared after reading alot of topics about the rear differential, the Center differential (inside the 5 speed), among other issues...

so my question to the owners is: is it really THAT bad? I want to buy a vehicle that I don't have to worry about for at least 100,000 miles (150,000 if it has a timing chain) I've heard about alot of problems at just the 7,000Mi mark. I don't plan on driving my evo like a maniac, but I do want to have fun in it, and dart in and out of traffic on a daily basis. I'm in metro Las Vegas so getting around quickly is important to me. I make frequent trips to Cali in my car, so Reliability is my #1 priority. I want an Evo because it's...AN EVO! If this one isn't built tough, maybe I should go for an evo 9 instead? Please give me some input!

I currently Have an 08 Lancer DE, which seems to be flawless for now....though it idles low at stops, but thats extremely minor compared to holes in the transmission.

First off, the rear differential is fine unless you add gobs of power. I mean 600+ whp. The center differential is only a worry if you're going to be launching the car. Don't launch it.

You're too vague with the phrase "a lot of problems".

The "problems" with the Evo X are not that bad. In fact, I've owned several new cars from Audi, VW, Infiniti and both an Evo IX and Evo X. The Evos didn't have any more or any less little problems than the other cars which I paid more money for them. The price you pay doesn't necessarily equate to how reliable a car will be.

Like Migs said, some of the "bigger" issues are only when you push the power levels or totally abuse your car. Those problems would happen with nearly any car. The good thing is that the vendors on here have found solutions to those issues so you would be good to go.

You're making the right choice of waiting an extra 6 months to afford to the Evo. Stick to your plan and let us know when you officially get that Evo!!!

The problems with the X aren't bad at all. It is actually a very reliable car. I've have daily driven mine for over two years and haven't had any major problems. Sure there is a little rattle in the interior but if you take the time you can fix them. Sure the transmission is a little notchy, but change the tranny fluid and get a short shifter and it's fixed. Like others said, if you launch at every light or double the stock power you are going to have trouble in EVERY car.

I missed this the first time through. PLEASE PLEASE drive normal. Driving erratic makes the cops aware of the car, raises the possibility for wrecks, and increases bad perceptions about our car from other drivers. The street is not the place to be driving like a moron. Obey all the laws, else get a BMW or STi. Those cars have already fallen victim to erratic drivers.

What are you 16? Evo's are cars you have to respect, its not something you can take in any streets and drive like a DUMAS. Please get something else stick with your Lancer. If you get an Evo then drive it carefully if you want to get places fast then give your self an extra hr to get there. leave the weaving and dodging stuff on video games so that way you don't raise the premium on our insurance and you'll live and so the people you'll end up hitting if you drive like a dumas. lol

It's ok to have a few questions prior to purchasing... But you seem paranoid. I don't think the Evo is the car for you. Sounds like you might be another one of those who wants to trade their car in because their Breambos squeal..

Man.. I didn't read the guys post thinking he's going to be doing 100+ mph's everywhere and pulling movie stunt stuff. Sure I don't think he worded it right when he said "darting in and out of traffic", lol, but whatever.. He started the thread to ask about how easy stuff breaks.

Maybe you should stay in your DE until you mature enough to be behind the wheel of an Evo. Or you could always buy a subi and girl pants to go with it.

^^ this. I will say that the interior of my car started to rattle at (no joke) 500 miles on the ODO. From what I understand a lot of evo x owners have this problem. i am currently talking with Mitsu to get the issue resolved.


I do know where you are coming from though. That's a lot of cash and buying a car is a big decision, one that you will have to live with quite some time.
