The Evo X really is a cop magnet.

First of all, before I got my Evo X five months ago, I drove a 4x4 pick up truck for ten years in CA without a front license plate. I never once got pulled over for it. In the last ten years, I was pulled over for expired tags a few times, but never once did a cop say anything about not having a front plate on my truck.

Tonight I get pulled over for not having a front plate on my Evo. I told the cop the truth, I said that I have the front plate at home, but there is nowhere to put it on the front of the car. I also said I only have 5k miles on the car.

He told me I need to go back to Mitsubishi and tell them to put the plate on. He even said I should tell them that I "almost" got a fix-it ticket. The cop was cool and let me go.

Maybe because I'm 39 years old is the reason he let me go without a ticket. I was surprised he didn’t say anything about my canister exhaust and the noise. (HKS Hi-Power)

After he let me go, I was worried about starting the car and getting pulled over again for the exhaust. I even tried taking my time, hoping he would leave first. He didn’t leave, he waited for me to start my car and drive off.

Interesting evening. I don’t want to drill holes in my bumper to put the front plate on. I think I’ll wait until someone gives me a fix it ticket before I put it on.

Anyhow, thumbs up for the cop being cool, but bummer that the Evo is a cop magnet.

lol I guess I should get used to it then. At one point I told the cop I tried using zip ties to mount the plate on the front, but it was a failed attempt. I actually did try using zip ties at home incase I needed a quick fix if I got pulled over.

Maybe I should keep a bag of zip ties in the car incase I need an excuse for not having a front plate.

Just get one of the show-n-go plates. You can put the plate under the car when you want to do race events or whatever and slide it up when on the streets. It basically saves you from having to put ugly holes in the front of your bumper.

I'm from jersey and one day I got pulled over for the front plate. The cop tried to tell me that it was illegal. I basically told him that the car came stock like that and that it is sold through out the world and the entire untied stated with the front plated mounted like that and I also stated the fact of why would the dealership sell something that wasn't going to be legal. I called the dealership and they told me that if I got any tickets for the front plate that they would pay for it. Then I did some research and decided to call the DMV and they told me and I quote "It doesn't matter where the front plate is mounted as long as it is mounted." This is in Jersey though but, my recommendation to every one is to call the DMV and do some research. There was a statute as well that I had found that detail all the motor vehicle laws and mounting of front plates. Hopefully this advice will help.

Do they not mount the front license plate on the driver side in Cali?

I've seen guys mount them in the dead-center of the car with zip ties (right under the Mitsu emblem). I zip tied mine to the FMIC mesh when I first got the car since it was cold here in MN, anyway. I've been running without the plate ever since. The only time I've gotten tickets for front plate is when parked at a meter. I've never parked this car at a meter...

i also REFUSE to drill holes in my bumper. i got pulled over 2 weeks ago for speeding and when the cop asked me where my front plate was i pulled it out from behind the front passenger seat and i said 'here ya go" lol it was a young cop so we both laughed. i told i had just bought the car and didn't know how to install it without drilling holes in the bumper so he just gave me a ticket for speeding. Its funny though because cops see me drive around through town and no one has given me **** over it(knock on wood)

There are a few places around here where I get pulled over for no front plate, but like many others, I'm not down with drilling my bumper. This, however, I'm seriously considering...

If you don't want to drill holes, why not get a vinyl made of your plate and stick it on the front where the plate would normally mount?

or put it in the front windshield on the passenger side.

I've seen both, but the vinyl idea looks the best.

Been pulled over twice in North Jersey for the same thing. I explained both times that I just bought the car and have yet to mount it because of the holes and they let me go, thankfully. But I've been thinking about getting a vinyl plate and seeing what happens. They do it in the UK and I really don't think a cop would even notice. Has anyone else done it?

Can I just ask, does anyone know the reasoning behind front plates? They're so asinine.
