Has anyone seen and/or tried this? I don't know if i'd get a turbo timer cause i don't track the car, but looks like a nice stealthy solution

Err, it's because a turbo is oil cooled (and that you're not mindful enough to cool down the car before stopping) that you might would want a turbo timer. It's to keep oil cycling through the hot turbo a bit longer so the turbo and oil can cool down so the oil doesn't coke.

If you like LED lights and scaring kids in the Kroger parking lot when your car shuts off and no one is inside, a turbo timer is for you.
However, if you're anally worried about it, go buy a newer turbo VW; their turbos are water and oil cooled...cool story I know.

I never really get the idea of the turbo timer, if you drive that hard when you actualy wouldb need one then you have to cool the whole car down not just a turbo.... Example brakes... So if you do that, the whole turbo timer concept is out of the window
I can't imagine what is the situation when you need cooling the turbo only.

VW turbos have been oil and water since 99. And I'm pretty sure as someone stated before that ours are as well. One other thing VW does is put an after run coolant pump on some models, mostly autos, that reverse flows the coolant after shut down to keep the turbo staying too hot.
I'm not sure what you mean you would need the whole car to cool down. There is no procedure or anything for hot brakes except to not use them, which stopping the car would take care of. The engine is fine, it has coolant in it, and if it gets too hot after shut down, the fans will come on to cool it back down, and the parts are still moving to need anything else. The turbo is the only thing that has the possibility to continue to run after the car has shut off to create more heat and friction. If you just got done boosting, parked and shut off, your turbo is probably still spinning a little bit. Most modern cars don't need turbo timers though, although they still provide a good piece of mind, and this looks to be a pretty good unit. Can you still arm the alarm while it's still running on the timer?

Even if the turbo is water and oil cooled you still need a turbo timer if running hard. Shutting the car off hot can damage your turbo. Why not be on the safe side instead of taking a chance at ruining a good turbo.
The X is designed so that if its too hot when you turn off the car the fan will continue to cycle to cool off the motor. At least that's what I have read on older posts. You really don't need a TT just do a slow cool down lap around your block keeping out of boost, at least you still have air flowing past the motor to aid in the cooling process. The other thing is unless you are retarded how hard is it to just let the car idle for 30 seconds. If they can train a monkey to go to outer space people should at least be able to remember to do this.
Yes a cool down lap would help and the fans do stay on as well. I've had turbo timers and like the fact that I can get out of the car and let it run for a minute without having to baby sit the car.
I am not sure how track experienced are you guys , but after the engine shut off and keep the turbo spooling reason...I am not even go there...
Another thing is when you stop the car and you theoritacly need a timer, you probabaly will weld the pads to the rotors, the best case scenerio you will warp the rotors. ETC
So anyway, after hard driving you should drive off pace to get the entire car cool down, specially if you have a DD car. IF you want to have parts stay longer on your car ,in good shape.
Just a little hint, you take it or leave it is up to you.
Race cars alway do a cool down driving. + extensive services. So that is not apicable here.

The best part is no one kills the turbo like a rally cars, and some times we have maybe. A mile to cool down. Strangly enough no one use turbo timer in they car.
That thing alone should raise the question, what is the purpose of the TT besides bling? LOL
