My remote won't work after installing a HKS Turbo Timer Type1

Please help guys. Last night a friend and I installed an HKS Turbo Timer Type one. The install went fine and the unit works great. The only problem is that the Remote control is not working now. I know it's not the actual remote since my other remote won't work now either. It must have soemthing to do with installing the Turbo Timer into the ignition. I used a harness so there was no actual splicing of wires.

Usually when the door is ajar and key is in the ignition a bell will sound repeatedly letting you know that the keys are still in the ignition and of course this also prevents the remote from working so you don't lock the keys in the car. Well for some reason now this is happening when the key is not in the ignition.

Any ideas or has anyone had this problem? Thanks

Are you trying to lock the car while the timer is running? If so thats your problem. The doors will not lock from the remote while the car is running.

No I am not trying to lock it with the timer running. I wait until the car is off and it still won't work.

There is a switch connected to the key cylinder that detects if the key is still in the ignition. It is seperate from the ignition harness that you tied into, I believe it's a small white two pin connector with yellow wires. Drop your steering column panel and check for a loose plug up by the ignition switch. Also the keyless entry should still work even with the engine running.

Craig you are exactly right! I banged that part while putting my steering column cover back on. I think it might be loose or broken. Do you think I could order this from Mitsu? Any idea what this is called so I can order one.

Thanks !!!!!

Not sure exactly what Mitsubishi calls it but it is a key sense switch. That switch comes apart very easy, there is a small spring inside that probably fell out. Try looking for it on the floor and maybe you can put it back together. You could always jump the two wires together for now and the car will think the switch is closed but only try this if you are familiar with wiring. Glad to be of help.

Good call Craig. The clip actually broke, (it's very fragile) I do have the two springs but the little, tuny clip on the side broke off so now it won't stay together. I tried taping it down tighter but I guess it's not working. I guess I just need to order another little clip. I hope they can figure out what that piece is for me!

Got the same problem today (remote doesn't work and dinging noise w/ no key in)

I was putting my steering column back together, and got lazy and didn't bother pulling back the driver's side lower portion of the dash. As a result, I kinda forced the lower half of the steering column cover in, which caused the plastic cylinder that houses the third (backmost) screw to rub against the the plastic housing of the spring-loaded sensor. That causes the plastic housing assembly to crack, and the spring-loaded plate, two long springs, and the cover to fall out.

That in turn caused my car to have that ding-ding-ding noise even with the key not in the ignition and the door open. I also noticed that the remote was no longer working.

Here's a pic of the items I found.

Note that the plastic housing that all this stuff was in seems a bit cracked.

Has anyone figured out a good (quick and dirty) fix for this? I notice that I can place the plastic spring-loaded platform (the object in that's the 2nd to the upper left) back in the housing and press the plate in and the dinging noise stops. But I haven't been able to keep the thing pressed and in place.

Also, does anyone know whether the two screws on the right came from the lower steering wheel column cover? I can't seem to screw them back in.

Thanks.

Sam
