Old chain is made by Borg Warner, BWA stamped on chain links. Is there any signs on the new one to figure out manufacturer?

That is completely true, but the reason i comment on this, is the posted whp number which is irrevelant cases of yours. I know couple of guys , who even run higher whp numbers on dyno and stock clutch.

here is why i think i should also point out these:
If you do use the 416 whp, the stock clutch would be gone a long time ago.
You can have 700 whp on stock clutch as long as you dont use the 700 whp in reality.

So its is not really just about the hp you have on the sheet, it is all about you are using that hp or not. Of course bad technic on the clutch and the transmission can, and does premature failures and wear on those parts. Clearly you know how to use stick shift.
But at the end of the day, wont matter how good you are, if you are using the available high hp and tq on stock clutch often , it will not hold.
Parts have their own limits. If they hold on higher "limits" that really means , their own limits are still not exceeded, even though the theoratical limits are raised( like raised whp ). Makes sense, specially in daily driving.

i hope my post came through as i intended to

The timing chain, i cant really see how you can damage it with driving style. With bad driving , like miss shift and so yes, but that is not a style, in my mind.
That is just purely a bad - unexperienced driving, and those shouldnt drive stick shift Evo from a begin with. Evo is really not a car for beginners. Defenietly not a car to learn to drive.

bump for this thought.. i've seen a lot of other cars with chain issues, mini coopers being the other main one that comes to mind. is this a faulty chain that they used to use? i have to think break in has some play in it now, again being that 'drive it like you stole it' is not the way to break in a motor, much less other drivetrain parts, and perhaps the timing chain as well

Just dropped my car off to get the timing chain replaced. Stretched a little and through a code. All covered under warranty, 39k miles.

I don't own an Evo yet, but I just had my 90k service done to my 08 Lancer and I'm in good shape. These cars, like many others, can last a long time if they're cared for. I mean, a timing chain that's supposed to "go for the lifetime of the vehicle's" shouldn't stretch at 30k.... that's bizarre. I don't know though, a 2.0l Lancer is not going to get beat on nearly enough as an Evo so maybe the chains have better hold-up in the Lancer.

you break in your car hard with 0 miles but only after it is fully warm. oil and cylinders take twice as long as coolant temperatures to warm. then floor it in every gear as often as you can and let the engine slow you down. do this for 200 miles and then change the oil. break in complete. done this on all my cars and never burn a drop of oil and run STRONG

There is a TSB out for this issue. Refer to this thread:

Yeah, maybe. Or you can do like I did and follow the manual instructions and not rev above 5000 for the first 600 miles and try not to run a long time at the same rpm, etc. Change oil at 1000 miles and then go nuts. I'm at 98,000 miles, no chain stretch, no powertrain issues at all, good oil test reports (Amsoil 5w-30 every 4-5000 miles).
Not saying my way is right or yours is. None of us are gonna buy 10 cars, break five in each way, and follow them for 150,000 miles. So really, its all just speculation.

In any event, not all 08's have the timing chain issue... Or diff pins, or...

I would say not even close to all 08s have had timing chain problems. My guess is a very very small percentage.

I mean you barley even hear about it online. Also the diff pins breaking almost seems non-existent. I rarely here anything about either of these problems.

A much more common problem for the X would be the CMC, or ACD pump failing in winter.

Well not complete speculation. Manufacturers know best. They do intense research and development, oil analysis, different processes. This isn't something new. I'd take manufacturer recommendation over what somebody says online. They have experience and data on thousands / hundreds of thousands of vehicles.

Ouch. I have an 2008 GSR with 46k miles thus far. No timing chain issue but I do have a lopey idle that gets bad sometimes.
