Don't pay $1,600. Get a local performance shop to do it for you. The chain is less then $80. Labor should not be more than $500-600. You should easily be able to do it for less than half of what they quoted.

I had the timing chain alert come up and when I took it to the dealer they checked it and found a false code was thrown. The chain was still within the tolerances and seemingly fine. Still, the $800 bill wasn't fun.

If they got that far in and the chain is only $80, I would had just told them to install a new one at the same time for $800 labor.

I just had this issue. My car was driving ok on Monday, then in the evening I started having idle issues at stop lights, etc. Then yesterday morning I tried to start her up and "clunk"!! Skipped 3 teeth (according to the dealer) So now I'm concerned about bent valves... 32,000 miles in an 08 MR.

quoted me $1,600 as well for chain, 3 guides, tensioner, gasket + oil change (obviously lol).

What a piece of ****. They should have stuck with the belts. So much easier, and now proving more reliable.

I have an engineering degree and I couldn't follow this. No wonder people have problems having their dealership work on it,

Are most people here out of warranty or something? This should be covered under the 5-year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
