Average maintenance costs? MR or SE

So I honestly planned on keeping this car stock, so back when I picked it up in March I bought the extended warranty. Thing is, after seeing a bunch of other X's in person, and all the talk online, I really want to do some stuff. Nothing crazy, just the basics. Exhaust, tune, filter, basic basic bolt ons, yada yada.

The thing I'm worried about is the reliability of the car since I won't have a warranty to fall back to. I'm not trying to push this thing over 400 or anything. I just DD it 50 miles Monday - Friday and around town on the weekends. Should that basic stuff really hurt the car? I would think not...Thing is, I already had the front left strut go out on my car for absolutely no reason. I don't drive it super hard or hit any pot holes...luckily warranty covered that.

I'd have extra money in case something did happen, but I don't want to drop $1,000+ every year on fixing stuff. All the roads I drive on are nice. I've always keep up on fluids and put in 93 gas.

I probably wouldn't do anything until next summer, but I want to ask now because I'm gonna call Mitsubishi and try to get some money back for the extended warranty.

For those of you who aren't on warranty and have a SE or MR, what are your yearly maintenance costs, besides oil changes.

Thanks for any input.

Is hard to pin down annual maintenance cost, because of too many variables. But with that being said, I spend the following...

SST oil filter every 7500 miles- $110
SST fluid change every 15000 miles -$250
Regular oil change every 3000 miles -$50
AYC, Rear Diff, Center Diff fluid change every 20000 miles -$200
Set of tires every 20000 miles - $800
Brake pads every 15000 miles - $500 includes fresh brake fluid flush
Spark plugs every 30000 miles - $60

The SST transmission is what makes MR/SE maintenance costs higher.

I was going for more of things breaking. I shouldn't have said maintenance, and should have said 'repairs'.

If you are careful with your mods you SHOULD be alright warranty wise. My dealer said a drop in filter and catback is fine, the question then becomes if they can tell if you reflash or not (there are tons of threads arguing about it). I think I am going to chance it and get an Accessport, once the maps become official (they are in beta testing now). You can always cancel your extended warranty and get your money back if you want.

I have the extended warranty as well. I haven't done any upgrades to my car yet either. However I did ask my dealer and they said that if they install it, it's fine. So for example, I should be able to buy some coil overs, and have the dealer install them. Then if that upgrade causes something else to break, the broken part will still be under warranty.

I would double check with the dealer before buying any of the parts, but it seemed like a reasonable deal.

I wish...I talked to the guy at my place and he said no mods period. He was saying as long as I make it stock before I bring it in for a fix his mech's probably wouldn't notice though. I just don't feel like taking it all a part and putting it back together. A) I wouldn't know how, and B) Since I don't know how I feel that would be expensive.
