Quick Evo vs STI comparison of my own

I'll stay brief:

Owned evo 8 w/ayc, E9 w/ayc, E9 w/o ayc, E10, various power levels and various suspension mods
Bought a 08 sti hatch, installed springs, tbe, sways, anti lift, camber bolts, tune.

If you're looking from a performance stand point - the sti is $#!t. With all the mods, it barely compares to an evo 8. Steering is numb, power delivery is laggy, differentials are bad.

In short - whoever had the same thoughts and is considering trying "to make the STI work" because it can't be that bad, it can be. And it is.

Sti is sold now, will be back in the evo soon. I'll write a detailed post about it once I have the time with pictures, comparisons, track times etc.

Until then - flame suit on.

Before I bought my Evo I was considering getting an Sti. After reading reviews and doing some research I went with the Evo X GSR. Best decision I ever made lol. Where I live, Sti's are a dime a dozen. Evo's are rare and look way better imo. I'm sure the Sti is a great car but I would never buy one

I don't think a flame suit will be required you are on the EVO forum

A lot of us came from STi's, I bought my STi in 2006 brand new, I looked for an MR back then but the one dealership that had one had no intention of selling it so I ended up with my STi, which was a great car until late last year right about the time the factory waranty expired it started falling apart, it started with an oil leak (rear main seal which is common) then a few months later the transmission gave out (yes the suposidly bulletproof 6-speed), a pin fell out and parts litterally came out the side of the transmission. While it was in the shop I was looking for a mitsubishi delership with an MR in stock so I could take it for a test drive (I wanted to give the "auto" a try before buying) but even earlier this year MR's were hard to come by. The weekend I got my STi back I drove it to a dealership and traded it in for a brand new EVO MR.

Compared to my STi the EVO is a much more solid car, within a few mins of diving it I felt confident enough to have some fun on the way home from the dealership.

Sorry for the long drawn out story but we will not attack you for thinking an X is better than the STi, we will agree.

I owned a 2006 9MR and a 2010 STi Hatch. Now I'm in a 2011 GSR. What I can say is that the STi and Evo are not similar vehicles. The hatch is nice and comfortable but doesn't compare in performance.

I prefer the interior of an STi, I prefer everything else about the Evo.

You're making the right choice going back to the Evo. My friend has an 08 STI hatch. Its a very nice car. Put together well. Comfortable. Interior is real nice. Ride is comfy. Lots of buttons to push on the dash. Enough room for a party in the hatch. But its not exciting to drive. Felt loose and not well planted. Had some power and doesnt sound too bad but can definitely be better. What scared my friend away from the Evo was the harsh ride, lack of trunk space and horrible reputation of Mitsu dealerships. He loves my car and wishes he could have it but its not just in his cards.

Go post this thread on NASIOC and then link to it back here.

I want to read all the excuses why your STI wasn't great.

You need to go back in time, get that Evo 9 with SAYC, and send it here to me in the states. I'll gladly keep it forever. We never got those.

Thanks!

My previous car was an 05 STi with mods. I loved it. I miss the sound, and the 6spd the most. I do feel the 08+ STi's aren't as good as the 05-07.

out of the box the 11GSR is slower than my STi was, but in the long run it takes way more $$ to make power in the STi than the Evo.

very interesting because out of the box my 11 GSR was waaay faster than my 11 STI with stage 1..look at my signature I also owned an 07 with stage 2+ custom tune..and my Stage 1 GSR was faster than that..
as the matter of fact we made a head to head test on , 60 mph pull with my friends 08 stage 2 Sti ..I put a good one car ahead of him ( by the way STI is 130lbs lighter and I am almost 90 lbs heavier than my buddy who's driving the STI so you are actually looking at additional 220lbs on GSR)..
now with Stage 2 , no STI can come close to me unless they change the turbo or something....

Handling, technology, driver involvement Evo also wins..so to the OP; you will not regret your decision

If the driver of the STI on that challenge drive the Evo, he'll probably beat his own car..

I too was looking at Subaru STi's and doing alot of research and comparison...I never even considered a Mitsubishi product in the past. The Subaru dealer here in Reading, PA was very snobby to me on 2 occasions, I never even drove the STi....but from every comparison that I read the EVO won, except the ice comparison in C&D. I love my GSR and hope it lasts and lasts with no troubles. I dont usually keep cars for very long but I think Im in love with this EVO GSR. Incredibly quick and fun machine with nearly endless capabilities.
