Weak points in Evo X?
yeah one more problem... mine is flashed and it already feels slow again... need moar powaaaaah!!!!

on a serious note... whatever problems u get with a new Evo X will be much less than any other 9 or 8... they're all used and more than a couple years old...

Something that i've noticed was glossed over a few times... by 2011, they have fixed almost all of the issues.
2008-2010 had the following issues:
- Solid front brake rotors breaking - fixed by '11
- Diff pins snapping - fixed by '11 (maybe late '10s)
- Notchy transmission - fixed by '11 (my transmission is butter unless I shift HARD)
- 1st gear throttle limiter in MR - fixed by '11
- Super silent exhaust - fixed by '11
- Overfilled transfer cases in '10 models - fixed by '11
- Gas pedals breaking - fixed by '11 (or this may have been because of not using floor mats)
- Stretching timing chains - fixed by '11 (haven't heard of any cases yet)
- Recaro seat staple issue - fixed by '11
- Fuel Rail - fixed by '11 (was a recall back in '09)

Man they have changed a lot of stuff on the '11 model year compared to the 08 if that list is correct. Strangely I didn't have any of those issues though.
Unless you want straight up drag race only, get the X...great car.

now my concern is it doesnt seem like there are many performance parts available for them. i know buschur awhile back touched some X stuff but didnt for long said there wasnt really a market for them.

You can't go wrong buying a new car. Long as you don't mod it for a while (enjoy the car for what it is and learn to drive it, ie driver mod),
will cover anything that breaks. When you're happy with the amount of warranty you've had (15k -> 60k miles), then start to do some light mods that
most likely won't care about. Drop-in, catback, etc.

I have a 08 GSR puchased in 08 spring. Never been a DD car , used racing mainly/ only.
I blew my engine after 13K miles with rally set up engine and tune with high boost on pump.
There is 0 issue with the car , besides I blew my CMC and the MAF with a HKS filter since I changed to K&N no problem.
Everything else is working as a charm.
No notchy trans- dif pin - ayc - diff etc problem.
For a performance car/sedan even as a very first gen. Is rock solid.

Drop-in, catback, etc.All of those "Mechanical" upgrades (except exhaust which some late, late 10's have due to product availability) were implemented in the later build dates of the 2010 model. Trust me, I know and have first hand knowledge from a couple of Mech employees in Great Britain and Japan. By saying from the assembly line the 2010 PB (and directly next in line on assembly line), the 2011 OB was upgraded is ludicrous and incorrect. Those upgrades all improved reliability and safety and were not due to a Manufacturer upgrade to differentiate the 2010 from the 2011. Remember these have been out in other countries since late 2007. However, the case with things exterior wise like fuse (which was a software upgrade) w/usb is something that is upgraded from model year to year.
If you want to be all inclusive, the 2011 will have the upgrades as apposed to your general 2010 (unless you know the build date of around April 2010).
All the best,
MvP
@Robevo RS: the shop that I go to also rallys Evo X (and VIII and IXs). They also commented on the 4b11's durability. Apparently there was a special rule made in their series to allow swapping rods in the Evo X cause they kept breaking.
drove an X 2011.
has the hard "grind" getting through gears when not warmed
has the usual trouble getting into first gear like it isn't letting you in sometimes
1/3 times the reverse was locked out
