warranty voiding mods
warranty voiding mods
Hello
I have seen a lot of threads asking about or saying warranty was voided because of mods. So to answer any future questions I will ask the BIG question what mods void warranty and what mods do not. Would help based on persinal exp and dealer postings. But from what most dealer posting show is any thing that was not bought buy and installed by Mitsubishi will not be covered and if said part cause the problem it will not be covered. But the big question is wear items if you replace those with aftermarket better ones and later some thing happens would they still try and void because of modded wear items?
I/E
UCIP: which is rubber and can get holes leaking boost / blow eng.
Turbo inlet tube: also rubber/ plastic can get holes/cracks in lower area past MAF letting unmetered air in.
Brake pads: swap for better stop low dust ceramic's but if the brakes fail could they blame it on the aftermarket pads????.
Smaller battery
Turbo timer
BOV: stock bov does not hold boost as well as aftermarket but if it has a boost leak causing the car to run lean cause eng damage or fails to open causing surg.
After market air intakes-panel filters could they void for these if there is a maf problem or cause leaning out that damages eng??
Almost seems any mods could be used to save them money and screw you out of your warranty. But for any one that is worried just fallow the simple rule if in doubt don't mod till your warranty is up.

It honestly depends on how big of a ***** your dealer is. They can technically void your warranty if you have an aftermarket boost gauge in the car since you tap into the electrical system for power. Granted, they have to prove that your modification is what caused the need for warranty work in the first place.
I have never hear of anyone getting thier warranty voided for brake pads or a smaller battery though. That would be in the realm of voiding a warranty because you used an other-than-oem accessory belt. It's considered a consumable item and warrenties don't cover those anyway.

best thing would be to talk to your dealer before you mod. see what they are comfortable with as far as mods. most are alright with basic bolt ons, TBE and intake. a tune would be iffy, but if all else fails switch back to stock before taking it to them. like stated above, they have to prove that the mods done are a direct cause of the said failure.... they cant tell you that just because you have a better breathing exhaust, that it is the reason you need brakes. if the dealer says no mods, find a new dealer. also no need for turbo timer in our cars.... they are linked to the engine coolant... it was originally designed for early turbos that just had an oil line so the engine needed to continue to run to cool the oil going to the turbo. others put them on just to say " yeah its got a turbo timer".

Mine said I can do anything I want as long as it's nothing internal to the engine. I even said "So bigger turbo?" and the manager said "Sure!"
Doesn't mean the story can't change next time I go in.
