When I was shopping for my X, years ago, one of the salemen admitted that the aero side skirts had a bit of an issue with people using them as step-sides to enter the car. So I opted (literally) for just the front and rear aero components, left the bigger skirts at the dealership for someone else to buy. (Which since they went out of business within a year of my purchase, I doubt they did anything other than sell them at a discount to the dealer who took over their inventory).

Even without the aero skirts, mine have a few nicks in them. Stupid dress shoes I wear!

This is not a fact... your skirts (the OE skirts not Aero) are the same as the 2010 skirts... the 08's are different, but everything after that model year has the bigger skirts such as yours
