Where to read the ECU codes?

I have been searching for the last 2 hours. I even have a copy of the maintenance manual.

Where/how do I read the engine codes? My service engine light wont go off.

Thank you

Try autozone or advanced auto, they should do it for free.

Buy evoscan software and the appropriate OBDII cable for your car and read it yourself.

Or take it to a shop and have them pull it.

I used to drive an SRT-4 (great car BTW) and you could turn the key 3 times to accessory and then the dash would flash and you would get a reading of the engine codes that would show up where the mileage normally is. Great feature that I wish more manufacturers would institute!

Unless you're in California. Apparently there was a big lawsuit where some car repair shops sued the auto part stores for reading engine codes for free.

+1 to EvoScan.

Evoscan... yes you have to buy the cable, but you can read them, and clear them. it doesnt just give you code number, it kinda tells you what is wrong, but not what is causing it if that makes any sense.

You can buy a cheap OBDII code reader for like $20. I have one made by Actron that I keep in the door compartment so I can read codes whenever they come up. It'll tell you the code but you'll have to use their manual or the internet to find out what the code means. I've used it more often to help read and clear codes for family and friends, but it's great to have handy. Since I always have a CEL for my high flow cat, I like to read and clear the CEL every once in a while to make sure everything's peachy.

Had nothing to do with "free". It was related to parts stores with unskilled/untrained/unlicensed employees offering "advice" on repairing what could be emissions-related car repairs.

California, like most other states, requires a state-issued license to inspect and repair emissions-related stuff.

I stand corrected. That was just what the guys at the local AutoZone told me.
