Never gonna use HKS products...
Have you heard a Turbosmart DualPort? I've got one on my IX on full recirc, it is VERY loud at certain boost levels and has a sequential sound to it.
I had the HKS hi power dual on my old Honda s2000. Sounded amazing and quality was great. Having had any other experiences with their products. I know people are happy with their drop in filter and exhaust on the X.
I had no idea all of our domestic fabricators were so inferior to the japanese.
According to your 95% claim I guess I should be easily able to find some JDM stuff that's better then the Mil.Spec, ETS, CBRD/Blouch, Buschur, Works, and GTWorx junk I got for my car.
Do you have any recommendations?
I bought an "HKS" bov on eBay, paid a lot for it, turns out it was still fake. NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS.
So I bought a used one for $75 bucks that i knew to be authentic, and I love it. Sounds great, VTA with zero issues, great product.
Perhaps you haven't ever tried to tune a Greddy BOV, idk, but HKS is good stuff.

holy **** this is a bold statement. Especially considering the list I posted. Pretty sure it's mostly American made and, according to my research here, the best you can get for an Evo.

And i think you're confusing performance with production quality (BTW, I never said anything about fabricators). The japanese use VERY high quality materials and scrutinize clearances better than most american companies...i hate to break that to you. Look at manual for building a honda motor, then compare it with the tolerances and clearances of it's american counterpart. ****, the same goes for german parts. Why do you think they run for so long with less failures?I know companies that build race/drift cars that send their motors over to japan because their machines are maintained and tolerances are repeatably exact.
I never said that those companies' products don't work, perform worse, or aren't worthy of running. Matter of fact, I'm pretty sure I will run their parts at some point or another. But unfortunately, because americans are cheap asses (im included in that statement), american companies are forced to find the cheapest acceptable materials so that the costs aren't astronomical.
I will say that the companies that you have mentioned are just a short list of companies that actually take pride in their products, instead of trying to make a quick buck. That...is unfortunate in my eyes. I wish more companies would be like them.
I realize that my thoughts are a little verbose and jump all over...thats what a few drinks do

ha ha ha. You need to learn to read. I didn't decide anything other than to say "I'm glad." figured some dope would read all kinds of **** into it and think it's all serious.
I've already bought Technafit, FIC, Buschur, Mil.Spec, Walbro, MAP, Works, Tanabe, AEM, Prosport, CBRD, Forge, Whiteline, Bilstein and GTWorx after searching here for months on end reading about what worked for other people. HKS never really came up except for loud-*** exausts and ricealicious BOVs to atmo (stupid ricers).
I'm trying to think of a single HKS part that even made it to my "maybe" list. and I can't. maybe there's a reason for that. I have no clue.
but please carry on, and DO enjoy your attachment to HKS products, they're JDM, yo.

My entire car is pretty much HKS ..... from Pistons, Cams, BOV, Intercooler, Oil Coolers, Turbo Actuator, Suspension, Exhaust, ECU, EVC, VALCON, Lines, fuel pressure regulator, Gaskets, spark pulgs........ its 430WHP and 420WTQ at 1.7 bar and has done 74,000KM and has never broken down or had a failure due to an HKS part.
I have great respect for HKS parts in general. Especially when I saw they're time attack evo 8(in response to one of the previous post, that one set track records in Japan and socal when it was running). I think they also had an awd drag skyline that set some records back in the day if I'm not mistaken.
But when it comes to the evo x parts, they aren't too appealing for the price and performance they give. The legamax exhaust aren't 3"(hi power are I think). The intercooler piping is twice as much as most other companies. Downpipe is restrictive and expensive (some of that has to do with the rhd version clearance of the car). As people mentioned, the vta and recirc bov isn't ideal.
If I had a r32-34 GTR or silvia, they'd be one of the first options on my mod list. But I'm looking elsewhere for performance on my evo x. I wouldn't go as far as to say they are a lower tiered company. They have shown the potential in performance on many different platforms, evo x not being one of them IMO (i know they have a demo car).
On a side note: I did buy a second hand hks IC piping kit for the evo x for pretty cheap (cheaper than buying any other name brand used uicp/licp). Fits just fine and haven't had any problems with it.

I did for about two weeks, then switched to ETS and never looked back. I have had tons of cars come to the shop, go on they dyno with HKS stuff. Its not bad. Then they switch to something else e.g. AMS downpipe then ohhh its not looking so good anymore for HKS. The numbers do not lie.t
Also this is not the first guy in the world to have problems with the HKS BOV. Its the #1 BOV that needs troubleshooting after install just to get it to work right.
1. Not so good BOV
2. Small *** dp
3. ok exhaust
4. ok electronics
5. Crappy suspension
I would rather just let the Nissan guys rock HKS and Mitsubishi can move to better products from AMS, ETS, ect.
When is the last time you saw a record setting mitsu using HKS? If people want to fanboy something just get some ARC and call it a day. BTW HKS USA has $$$$ issues in todays market. Does http://www.hksusa.com/ still work for you?
Not me.

Cyber evo is an hks evo, right?
Also many rally evos running hks parts very sucsessfully.
Outside of the usa parts been measured mostly by quality first then the numbers.
And that mentality leaded to what it is today auto market.
All around the world people makes much better cars overll then a usa does, but less hp

Just food for thought...
I have to agree with the OP about their Bob's... I bought a hks bov.for recric proupuses... just for better response and had nothing g but problems with it... I ended up replacing it with a synapse and selling it to a Honda Guy on eBay. I am very happy with the synapse bov and they show a video compairison using the hks bov on a random car
Just kind of shows the narrowmindedness that is endemic on internet forums. The OP makes a generalization about a product after having one personal experience with only one of their (second hand) HKS products. Perhaps the used HKS BOV was broken? Maybe a new BOV would have worked better? Who knows? So the HKS BOV is terrible...does that make their exhaust for the Evo x bad too? Perhaps do a little bit more research before making a rash purchase.
FYI, the new HKS BOV for the EVO X has worked well for many owners. It does hold boost well on the EVO X, but didn't work so well on the older Evos.

+1
Love when people buy used parts and talk smack. Bov is not vehicle specific it is a universal item.
Buy an oem metal mitsu bov and be happy.
