Do what I did, buy EVO Modded to **** without tune, blow the motor up, get another motor, now carefully go over the Mods one by one change the ones you dont like, then have a good known reputable tuner tune your car.... AND THEEEEEEEEEEN! Drive the **** out of it... :-) accept I am still at the part where I am changing the mods I didnt like from the prior owner... aaah hell, but a totally stock evo and put on the **** to make it go fast, tune it, drive it, love it... Evo Out!

Quote: Honestly, If you are happy with the way it is now, Keep it. But I'd personally go with the Tune, It will pull harder and be a lot more fun that it already is. And as far as safer, they both are good for the car, you won't really hurt it at all either way you choose
Thats what I'm not understanding. If a tune will make your car pull harder and is just as safe for the car...why did Mitsu not tune it differently?

Because Mitsu didn't want anyone running crazy on the street and all that jazz. Like I said, the stock tune is fine, it's actually good. But no matter what you have, it can always get better. Just the way it works man. As far as why didn't they just give it the best possible tune they could, that I can't answer, They probably just didn't want to spend all the time with R&D

Haha. I just remembered what the whole point of this thread was for, parts and first mods.. got kind of track..

I did tint, which isn't really a mod I guess, then H&R lowering springs, painted the wheels, and got a drop in air filter and intake tube. I didn't get a lot of power mods for a while and just made there wasnt anything that needed to be warrantied.

Thats what doesnt make sense to me either. I would think those Mitsu engineers have done their R&D. I would think that Mitsu has spent more money on R&D than any tune shop in your area no matter how good they are. I guess it could be cause of what you said. Maybe there is gov't regulations holding the Evo back. Emissions or something.

Yeah, That's a question that I only think a tune shop or Mitsu itself would answer lol, Not me. Wish I had that answer for you though

HAHA well FP Red was my first goal. But yeah, the darkside was calling my name, plus I got a hell of a deal on it. Upraged WG and Upgraded Fuel lines. .94 hotside, little higher rpm spool, god i'm drooling thinking about it. Got some Kelford 272's to go with it too. Hopefully i'll be pushing some good numbers.

Yeah for now. I might Have Ivey rebuild one day.. But I'm also looking into FIC 1100 and 255 Fuel pump kit. Also thinking about running E85 as well, only problem with that is the nearest pump with E85 is 30 miles away

Well I have a stock evo other than a tune. I tunned via open source with a help of a friend that has access to dyno

I Did a very conservative tune , and I picked up from 269/289 to about 289/305 on a dynojet. This is peak numbers. Overall area under the curve I picked up close to 30awhp and about 25ft/lbs. of tq across the board. This is Just by leaning the car out a tad, changing some timing settings and increasing about 2 lbs. of boost across the board. There is plenty of fuel work to be done and some timing changes and the car can easily get to 300awhp and well over 310tq on its stock form. ( look at a guy that just did 306awhp/315tq on this very forum). I am not done , I want to break the 300 barrier in a safe and conservative tune and leave it as is.

So it goes back to the question. What are you plans?
Depending on that you can
1) Get the car flashed and leave it stock until you plan on bolting more items into the car. In other words if you bolt on later you will pay more at least twice for your car to get tunned.
2) Get all your parts and then get your car tunned once you got all of your mods in

I went the ladder part as I am staying stock until I pay of my car off in 3 years. Then I will consider modding.
But unlike you I don’t worry about paying a tunner as I do it myself
Have fun.
