New 2012 MR Owner
New 2012 MR Owner
I just bought this bad boy yesterday. Traded in my 2011 STi for it. The Evo has the touring and premium package.
Overall, the Evo seems to be much more refined in terms of the interior and features of the car. I definitely feel like I traded up. I could go on and on regarding things I like about the Evo over the STi or vice versa, but I'll just show you a couple pics I took on the way home.
I was curious how to setup the bluetooth and USB on the stereo. For a minute I thought for some reason my car didn't have USB. But, upon reading the owners manual, I was very surprised that the speech button is used to interact with the system and where the USB port was. Going to have fun with that.
I'll take a few more later if you fellas want to see anything else about the car.

Congrats on the purchase!
Would you mind sharing a little more on the comparison between both cars? Coincidentally, my brother is looking between both cars and isn't sure which way to go as he loves both (gsr though, not MR).

Yeah boi!!! Rally Red!
Congrats! awesome upgrade!
Btw, to operate the bluetooth, hit the speech button while the car is parked and listen to the prompt, it'll guide you through setting up your phone and the speech training
You need the oem NAVI to complete the experience though
if you don't already have it, get one!

Just got mine 3 weeks ago ww 2012 non touring with premium pkg , any way nice ride and enjoy ,youl notice the shifts are a little tamer after a couple hundred miles ,,, traded in my 08 gsr rr for the mr and love it .
Thanks everyone. I bough it yesterday, and all day I'm wanting to leave class to jump in it and get some miles on it before I give it hell.
What is recommended break in mileage?
Sure, lets see... these are all my personal views with regard to my current lifestyle. This is also comparing a 2011 STi to a 2012 Evo MR.
The STi seems to be a bit more practical in nature. Folding rear seats, more spacious cabin, seats are easier to get in and out of and more more comfortable for the average person. The Evo seems to be more business oriented and refined. It just seems to be higher class IMHO.
I had to drive my STi with dress shoes on, and it was not fun. That coupled with the fact I'll be moving to the city of Atlanta and fighting traffic, a 6speed isn't really suited for that fact.
-I became tired of a stickshift, and considering 2 of my other cars are standard transmission, I wanted an automatic that I can enjoy as a manual.
-The local Subaru dealerships were nice, but somewhat incompetent in my personal opinion. I've brought the car to the dealer several times to investigate a strange sound in the drivetrain but the the dealer handed the car back each time with a shrug of the shoulders. I didn't want a small problem now to be a big problem later and have them point the finger at me.
-STi has lots of road noise on the highways. My hearing sucks to begin with, I don't want to blare the stereo when simply driving down the highway just to hear it. Evo with the touring package has sound dampening, and boy does it work well!
-Seating in the Evo is pretty much exactly what people put aftermarket in their STis. I found myself having to hold myself in my seat with the steering wheel and my body leaning too much when corning in the STi. You feel bolted into the Evo, lol
-MUCH better soundsystem in the Evo. DO NOT purchase navigation when purchasing or ordering an STi. Put in an aftermarket unit.
-I like the fact that I'll be able to change my spark plugs in the Evo without having to remove reservoirs, intake box, and other **** like you do the STi.
I will say, I will miss several things about the STi... the boxer rumble, occaisionally miss the 6 speed, the WING haha, SI-Drive to change throttle maps, and the low-end torque of that 2.5L engine.
I also have a bad habit of trading cars every couple of years to some new model or manufacturer, so I have almost no doubt I may trade this in within 3 years. Not that I don't like them, I just want something new. Probably why I'm afraid to get married, lol
I don't know about the NAV... factory navigation on any car tends to be subpar to aftermarket units in sound and quality in my experience. I'd rather spring the $1000 for a Pioneer unit than $2000 on the factory stuff.
Sure is

^ oh but you don't have to spend $2,000+
I also spent $1,000 on my MMCS navi, all you have to do is look 'em up on the Sales section or eBay... anyone with an MMCS here can attest to their above-average features when compared to other standard manufacturer navis... I have a 2011 Hyundai Elantra Limited with the Navi... and the Evo's MMCS is 200% more navi than the Hyundai one will ever be
