I had a 2 door white golf r reserved, i heard about this and and i was gone..

 

I think the main reason why these 2 cars are comparable is because they both are:
- AWD
- 4-cylinder Turbo
- offer manual transmission
- have usable back seat
- are considered top of the performance line for the brand
- are similarly priced
- have huge tuning potential
- are cars for enthusiasts and not just average Joes

As many as there are similarities though, there are even more differences, but the 2 cars are comparable and a lot of people will cross-shop them.

For the record, when I was researching my 'next' new car over the past few months, I considered Golf R, Evo X' Subaru STI, as well as some other non-comparable cars like Mini JCW, Audi A4, Subaru BRZ, Mustang GT, and even Fiat 500 Abarth and at the end I ended up with the X which I don't regret (yet).

 

I guess I'm not like most people. I don't "comparison shop" cars. I knew since high school I wanted an Evo and after I graduated college and got a job I went and test drove one and bought it the next week. Didn't even bat an eye at anything else.

 

That has to be the worst review I've ever seen :/

 

I'm with you. I wanted an Eclipse GST/GSX since the 90's. I've wanted a Evo since the XIII came out in the US.

What kind of pricing was he using? Was it Canadian? I havent seen to many MR's for $44k. He should have compared the GSR to the Golf. If that Golf is $37k then the Evo is cheaper.

Overall I dont think the Evo's interior is all that bad. The Evo was only a few thousand more than my Eclipse and the interiors are about the same to me. And ofcourse the Eclipse isn't even close in the performance/technology area.

Everytime I see a Golf I think "how cute"

Golfs are not bad cars at all. Mainly for daily drive probably better for most people. So as we know the Evo is not for "most people"...
There for i dont see any problem with a review. Those who will choose the R against the Evo, based on this review probabaly much better of with that car anyway. :

 

Agreed. I'll take this one step further and say that folks who compare the Evo to any car based on something other than the driving experience are better off with something else.

 

that was the absolute WORST review (can't even call it that) that i've ever seen. what a dousche. he loves one car one second and despises it another. dumbass.

 

The video is barely watchable. The guy is trying way too hard to be funny.

Evo on Road - "Ew, I hate this interior....OMG why is it so noisy....sounds like a blender"

VW on Road - "This is so luxurious, it's so smooth, I can't wait to show my friends...they will all be jealous"

Evo on Track - "Did I just have sex?"

VW on Track - "This is boring, I don't like Germany, I push these buttons and they do nothing and all these lights keep flashing at me, I wanna go to the mall and go shopping instead"
