Where do you prefer to have wheel weights?

I have the type that clip onto the outside of the rim and this bothers the heck out of me. I'm worried it's going to scratch the clear coat off the wheel or cause other problems.

Does the BBS wheels come like that from the factory?

Thinking about taking it to a shop to have the weights put on the inside of the wheel.

I'm not sure about PA, but we have Discount Tire here, and they pretty much only use the stick on weights inside the wheel.

I don't want to bum you out, but every set I've seen the OE weights come off, they leave scuff marks. This might be remedied if you very carefully take them off yourself, slowly, taking your time, before taking them in to get balanced again.

The only reason I can think Mitsu does this is lower cost or efficiency. It's a darn shame to scuff such beautiful new wheels, especially the BBS.

Mine have stick on and the clamp type, both on the inside from factory. The clamp on ones are covered with a black piece of felt like material.

One reason for clip-on weights, instead of inside sitck-ons, is the tight caliper clearance in the front. Another reason is that people use that spray-on / hose-off wheel cleaning stuff (and they use it often with the dusty pads), which eats the glue of stick-ons. Mitsu isn't insane for doing what they do (in this case).

Use stick on weights and brake cleaner around them and cover them with gorilla duct tape.

You're exactly right about that, even Sonax likes to eat the glue. I have had a couple pop loose, but a little bit of 3M doublesided tape puts them back for good (and you can always see the outline of where they were before to make sure they're spot on).

All that being said, yeah the sticky kind look a lot better than the clip on ones, and the clip ons definitely have a tendency to leave scratches.

I have stick ons. The clip ons always leave scuff marks on the wheels. I guess you could take them to a professional wheel guy and get them fixed up.

I cover mine with extremely thin tinfoil tape (that also matches the appearance of the inside of the wheel and has very good glue). You'd be surprised at what some duct tapes weigh and adding weight after someone balances the wheel is, er, self-defeating.

And, no, I haven't a clue where I got my fancy tape, so don't ask. I did some things in the 1970s that weren't the best for my memory....

I get that, and would understand moreso if they'd do it on the inside of the wheel. I hate seeing a new MR with a monster weight clipped on the outside of a BBS on the dealer lot.
