I'm using stage 2 in the sti sense, which is a full exhaust and a tune, but I noticed a lot of people here say you don't need a down pipe (i've been browsing around all day at work lol) and I see a lot of people going with intakes and top intercooler pipes, so yeah I guess I'm calling that stage 2. I saw people are making around 350awhp with that set up!! that's disgusting. that gets us ~300 in the STI.

So far today about 5 dealers have gotten back to me, and I get an employee discount on mitsu, it's on!

I'm being picky and only getting one if it's a 2012 GSR Octane Blue with SSS as the only option.

I'm already mod shopping haha

Hahaha. Well congrats. Sounds like you are on the right path.

On the downpipe: the downpipe in itself, it's quite short so it doesn't give you any real gains. You can get gains with an O2/DP combo, like the AMS, ETS, or Map downpipes. But it is a PITA to replace, so some people just wait till they change the turbo to replace it. You can get around 10whp/wtq with it, maybe..

And yea the upper intercooler pipe is one part that is usually replaced due to the amount of rubber that can flex/expand under boost..

A "stage X" is not realy clear since every one as his own idea of a "stage" mod.

Honestly the best bolt on would be catback + HFC or TP add to that intake and UICP + LICP and finaly a tune and you should get to that 350 whp with a basemap.

As for the problem with the X I think an other good thing to say is the FPR hose that just pop out when you overboost. But i think this problem has been fixe since the 2010 version if I am right.

removing the clutch restrictor (pill) in the slave cylinder will make the bigger difference even when cold. it's better to remove it especially when upgrading the clutch.

So... Until I read this thread...

https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/ev...-variance.html

I was all for a new 2012 and I was going to cash in on the 3 month no apr deal, but that has me kind of backing off it now.

I found a 2011 with the exact options I want, with 4000 miles on it.

Which would you guys get?

I would go new any day if I was you. A car like an Evo should always be bought new IMO, unless you just have to get an older one..

The difference in the 2012's from that thread is on 3 different cars from ONE tuner. It could just be something different with the tunes that Mitsu changed in the ECU that they have not realized yet.

It's hard to not get one with 4,000 miles, for 6k cheaper when it's a proven power maker. It's pristine too, I can't believe it. 100% stock as well. No signs of tampering with anything.

6k cheaper at only 4,000 miles is not bad at all. You save money plus you get the evo.

Many revert back to stock fairly easy when selling and trading in. But at 4k miles, there is a good chance it was never modded in comparison to a higher mile used Evo.

I would normally not buy a used Evo if I could afford new. But in this situation, I would consider it. $6k savings is pretty good. How about interest rates? WIll you get the same interest with used compared to new? They also have some rebates on new 2011's I believe.

The 2012's with less horsepower is just a theory right now. Nothing has been proven. Although I think its possible, I wouldn't look away from a 2012 just because of that thread.

I'm basically just carrying over payments from my STI to the evo and paying it off within 3 years at 250 a month lol. I'm paying the difference in cash, there is a good chance I could even lower payments. No new 2011 in my area in blue SSS, I tried

I would probably go for it then. Those would be awesome payments also. I pay well over $500 a month for mine (but had negative equity carry over).

Do they have the car posted for $6k less? Can you talk them even lower?

Also are you sure you want to trade in your sti? Is anything wrong with it or you just concerned about the ringland issue?

It's the lowest price one used one in 500 miles from here by 2000 bucks, i talked them down a little, but it's as low as i can get lol, especially due to miles and SSS package. I'm also driving 400 miles just to get it, so I looked far and wide!

Yeah, I've regretted getting this STI since I got through the break in period. Too afraid to mod it, not worth the 4-6 grand risk, and some people have it happen multiple times within 15,000 miles, even if they are stock they get denied by subaru then after the 5 year warranty ends you're basically up **** creek if it goes out and you're out the money anyway. my long term plan was to turn this car into a winter car after it's paid off and then get something smallish and fun, like a BRZ, for summer time.

I literally lose sleep worrying about the friggan ringland and not being satisfied with the performance, worst 35 grand i've ever spent. my girlfriend is sick of hearing about it lol

I love subaru, but I can't get behind this new sti, they act like it's not an issue, what happened to the lemon law?
