Shifter Cable Rattle...I think
Anyone on here hear a rattle that is like a highspeed oscillating tapping?
I've had the sound since day 4 of owning the car. It happens whenever there is load on the engine. I took it to the dealer and they found the sound goes away if you put a little pressure on the shifter (I have a GSR btw).
So the sound has gotten like a million times worse and louder, and now I hear it anytime I'm shifting at higher rpms in between shifts. Like always a little pressure on the shifter and the sound goes away. The sound is about as loud as my GReddy Ti-C exhaust, just so you have an idea.
The dealer offered to pull the dash apart to find the rattle when I had ~4k miles on the car, but mentioned how I'll likely get new rattles from pulling everything apart.
Does anyone know if a shifter change, cage, bushings, etc will fix this? I'd hate to try to fix it on my own and buy a new short-shifter with full cage like TWM sells, and still have the prob. The sound to me sounds like it's coming from deeper under the dash like near the firewall, but totally unsure because of how sound bounces around in a car.

Are you still under warranty for that particular area? I'd let them fiddle with it and fix it. If it's not up to your satisfaction then keep bringing it back.
I hear a clacking sound from the tranny when I shift, but no tapping other than the normal lifter tick.

The warranty specifies an "Adjustment Mileage" of like 8k miles, and I'm at 12k now. But I probably should take it to them and just ask. Today coming to work I had actually wished we had left the Evo at home and drove the wifes Focus....then I realized, yeah it really has gotten *that bad*
Yeah I had the same problem. I took it to the dealership and week later they found the problem. Shifter cable was banging against some plastic. They had to take the whole dash apart to find the problem. They insulted the cable or area, not really sure. The dash was put back to get without any major problems or rattling. So far the car is good.
Only problem I had with the dash is my hazard light area is a little off to the side. I would take it back to the dealership so they can fix it. But it might take them another week to fix that problem.
I hope they fix you car faster then mines. Now that you know where to look at.
Good luck

I was seriously thinking of dropping the $400 (full cage and shifter) + $160 (shift knob) + $70 bushings, and replace the whole freaking thing since what I hate about the GSR is the shifter. But I know the second I replace all that stuff in the attempt to solve the problem, I can kiss any warranty work for the actual problem out the door since as soon as they see it's aftermarket they'll have solid reasoning to say it's my issue.
Anyone running this full setup? I thought someone on here was. Just wondering direct feedback related to my issue
