New Evo X, Overcooling?
Hi there, Well, bought a brand new 2012 Evolution X GSR back in march, and I had a question about how warm the engine should be when you drive. All the vehicles I've owned before the temperature reading would sit right in the center of the meter. On the Evo I notice it tends to go quite low, as in only about 1/4 the way up the gauge. when I'm cruising at freeway speeds. In city driving its fine, stays right smack in the center of the gauge. I've contacted the dealer and asked their opinion, they seems to think its ok, But I figured I'd register here and ask you for your opinions.
No, my AC is off ambient temperature when I was driving it today was about 72 F. The car is bone stock, being brand new and all. I wish I had actual temperature numbers for water and oil to post for you, but unless there is some way to display that in the mini LCD between the tach and speedo I won't have those.
its normal. As you are going higher speed on the highway, more air is hitting the rad/intercooler which will cool the system alot more. When you are in the city, not as much air is getting to the rad/intercooler and it will heat up.

Mine goes right to the halfway mark, and ODB2 scanner app shows water temp at 183 low, and 198 high usually.
The 198 is usually when I have the AC on when it's about 110F outside for ambient air temp.

I wouldnt worry about it, a turbo car running cool is always a good thing. In the summer even if a thermostat stuck open it would likely build heat. If winter comes and you cant get heat, then take it in.
Thermostat that's stuck open would cool a car for about 1.5-2 hours, then it would overheat. Reason being the coolant never gets a chance to cool down, it's always on circulation. Doesn't matter if it's cold or hot weather. The only difference would be, on cool weather, the coolant would stay cool a little longer before it overheats.
