Turbo/Power Problem
Turbo/Power Problem
I was going to post this in the turbo section but I am not sure if that is the problem or not. So, I just got my 2012 EVO X. I got it with 10 miles and now a week later I have about 800. When I first got the car I could feel the turbo kick in and rocket the car. I have never red lined the car, I only gunned it like 3-4 times. Hitting about 6k rpm in first and second. However lately it doesn't seem to feel that way. I was wondering if my turbo is leaking or something. I dont hear any noises but it doesnt seem the same. The only thing I can think of is that I have now got used to the power and dont realize it anymore. Is there a way to check if the turbo is leaking or broke?
If I am already used the power the EVO, I want MORE!
Thanks,
Ryan

It doesn't hurt to check:
1) Fuel Pressue Riser vacuum line on the intake manifold that's notorious for coming off
2) datalog your boost, and the a/f that the primary O2 sees, and knock sum, and check to make sure your fuel pressure relay isn't crapping out on you
However, I'm thinking since you are new to the Evo
1) You were heavily surprised the first few times you hit the throttle, and now you are used to it. It's okay, we are all Boost addicts. We come here for support with our "issue".
2) It's summer, over the past month temperatures changed drastically. Due to the high pressure and precision timing control the ECU has with intake and exhaust MIVEC, the hot temps ROBS power....error I should say, the Evo's ECU is smart enough to hold back the power to keep it's life expectancy up. Sadly, hot temps (I'm in Phx, I only feel lots of pull for about 2 months a year) kill a little of the fun-factor with boost.
If you do a couple bolt-on mods like Intake, TP/HFC and CBE and a tune, you'll seriously put the excitement back into your drive again.

Yeah that seems about right. I am going to start by checking those 2 things. And if nothings wrong I guess I am ok. It has been hot the last couple days and it was cool the first couple. So maybe it being hot does have a factor.
I plan on getting a new Intake here shortly. What is a good cheap one to get in your opinion? The dealership guy told me to get one but I dont remember which one it was.
Thank for your input! That really helps.

Might be boost leak somewhere as well check IC piping couplers etc...
And if no problems are found and your just now used to it... Mods will add more power but you'll get used to those quick too. Next thing you know you spent $10,000 on mods and its still not enuf! hahahhaha Love this car!

honestly, the OE intake with a drop-in filter is great for the cost. If you need to stay "cheap" that's your best option because for $50 in a filter you can't go wrong.
If you really want to get an intake my suggestion is, since you bought an Evo, don't go cheap, it's a nice car, do things right. Going to an open element filter intake you'll definitely hear the turbo spool and your DV dump...it's awesome.
Everyone on here will attest AMS and ETS are quality products. If you plan to do further mods to your car and like all your aftermarket products to be guaranteed to work together, those two options are fantastic.
What I did though: I was really **** about wanting to use the OE cool-air snorkel as I find it's useful and I *hate* the look of it removed. I *really* liked the heat-shield of the K&N because it goes all the way to the hood when the hood is closed. As a bonus it's the same price as the other intakes available and comes with the Upper Intercooler (hot) pipe that is known for expanding and robbing some throttle response.
I love it. and glad I bought it. My only dislike on it, I had problems with the K&N filter sliding off the MAF plastic piece. I easily fixed it, but it was annoying at first. Just my
