First the S-AWC, then the ABS/ASC
First the S-AWC, then the ABS/ASC
So, this is everything that happened, chronologically.
Bought the Evo X used with about 40k on it, at about the 55k mark the clutch started to slip a little, so I bought the replacement
and had a small shop recommended to me (I know, but when your dad says they know the guy, you don't always ask questions) and
he was gonna give me a good deal. So apparently what happens is, they lift the car up, swing the hub loose, and they aren't too sure where
to go from there. This next part is an exact quote from what they said "We called them (the dealership) to have them fax over some things
to make sure we got everything, and they said they couldn't do it. They also said that if you pull the axle out of the transmission, all of the gears will fall
out". Now, he may have bulls*****d me that, but hey, he didn't charge me, and he didn't take anything apart (as far as I know).
All I know is when I got back into the car, after about 15 seconds or so, I lost my S-AWC. I shut the car off, restarted it and it was back, for about 15 more seconds,
never got it back after that.
I immediately take it to someone else who had done the job on a Evo 8 before, and they do a great job on it.
Except the ABS light came on, along with the ASC (which I figure they are related), they said it was probably just the alignment,
and that the dealership could reset it.
Could we maybe pull a code for the abs?
Thoughts on the problem?

Take it to the dealer and most likelly they will tell you what is the problem.
Odds are, the broken a wheel-speed sensor when they started to do the job. That's something that will take out the S-AWC and ABS. The reason it seems to work when you restart it is that Mitsu wants the car to roll something like 17' before the ECU "gives up" on a wheel-speed sensor.
In any event, you probably do want to go to the dealer, since they can read the codes. A car-parts-place reader can't read the S-AWC or ABS.
Of course, if your dealer experience is anything like mine (today), after 2.5 hours they'll tell you nothing, charge you for "diagnostics," and say they have reported your mods to Corporate.

It's actually my car, just didn't have my account info at the moment. But it basically is, mild bolt-ons. Intake, Upper IC pipe, exhaust and a Stage 1 clutch. The weird thing is, the first time only the S-AWC went, then later the ABS/ASC. I guess I'll just pony up the dough for the dealer, but them reporting anything won't matter would it, if your warranty is up?
It's generally up to the dealer on what they will report. Some dealers seem to not really take notice of mods while others, as happened to the guy above, will take any opportunity they get to report you to "Corporate".

It's not weird, if it's a wheel-speed sensor. As I said above, the ABS system does not throw a code immediately for an open circuit. The car must roll 17'. I haven't had a bad wheel-speed sensor on my Evo, but it would not surprise me if it threw a code immediately.
If you really don't want to go to the dealer, at least pull the wheel (the same one the guys who tried to do the clutch pulled) and check the wheel-speed sensor for something obvious. You can also check resistance at the ECU end of the wires. That's how I figured out which sensor it was on the DSM without a MUT-II.

Where did you check them? The key is that the wires must make it all the way to the ECU. When I lost a wheel-speed sensor on the DSM, all was fine in the wheel-well, but there was an open circuit when measured at the connector to the ECU.
With that said, there's another reason why an X might wait 15 seconds before throwing a code. If the S-AWC has been reflashed, the pump waits a little before starting. If the pump is dead, it might take a few seconds before the system "realizes" this and throws the code. Can you listen to the pump (requires that you be in the trunk) when you start the car?
